Jantz Grodzicki just died in Florida apparently. Came short on a triple and tried to land on his feet, wasn't successful.

Update: Vitalmx was wrong, he is in ICU but the injuries are extreme.

Update: Responding to simple commands moving his eyes up, down, left, right, and eyebrows. Major step from being pronounced brain dead, hope he pulls it off. Was wearing leatt brace and shoei helmet.

Again this proves that tracks have gotten to fast, and are putting kids at risk. Thanks AMA..

+1. Tracks are spectacle at the expense of all else. Its amazing to watch these guys go 70' or better BUT the slightest mistake results in WHAT? The sport would have so many more folks at the local level IMHO without the dangerous sky shots (at least at this scale). Is MX growing?

What a shitty title to this thread.
Condolences to Jantz's family, what a horrible tragedy.
You can't blame the AMA or anyone else for something like this, MX is a dangerous sport and kids will always go for the skyshot young guys like that live for it.
Jump size also has very litttle to do with it i think, a young guy died on our local club track couple years ago. He was very good rider and it was only a little jump.

jump height has nothing to do with it? When you are 35' over the ground there is a LOT of stored potential energy that is about to be released into your bones. Yes, freak situations can happen with no jump at all but the injury rate is growing. The sport is not. Folks say that "kids take the risks" but really, they take the risk for their loved ones instead. THEY are the ones that will really pay the price for the "risk" when things do not go perfectly. MX is dangerous but does it really need to be this dangerous?

I can't begin to imagine what his parents are going through right now. They say there is nothing worse than outliving your kids.
I always wanted my daughter to ride with me and had rebuilt a jr50 for her by the time she was a year old.She enjoyed it but the first time she went over the bars I almost dropped one in my pants. It never fazed her other than being gimpy for a few days but over time she became less into riding and more into competitive dance, cross country and is now eyeing triathalons.
Motorcycling has,for the most part, gone by the wayside for her and I couldn't be happier about it.
My condolences to his family and friends.Terrible news.

Update-cross your fingers, send good thoughts or pray if that's your thing.

I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

Bad news, family is pulling Jantz off of life support in a day or so. Spinal cord was severed at the base of the skull. Again, this is insane.

again very sad to hear he is more or less gone , but blaming the tracks or people running the racing is just plain wrong , how many die from mx every year world wide  ? you could count them on one hand , we all like to ride mx and we all like to jump race or no race we build bigger jumps or go bigger with or without anyone there controlling it , why ? because we love it .

Again in ways yes, blaming the sport is wrong. Allowing or making a sport to get this unsafe is also wrong. Xgames style jumps have no place in racing.
