2 Stroke Formula 1?
« on: November 30, 2012, 05:13:29 PM »
Since they made 1400 horsepower out of a 1.5 litre turbo 4 stroke, how about a 1.5 or a 3.0 litre v8 or 10 2 stroke F1 car? How high could you get the RPM's? I'm talking with fuel injection so it won't smoke and they got 20,000 rpm out of a 4 stroke f1. What do you think it would sound like?

I honestly don't know if you could optimize port timing for 20,000 rpm

Never work sorry.
Aerodynamics play a bigger part in F1 then horsepower. So where could you fit the expansion chambers.?

Never work huh?

This is a top three finish car and hits about 200mph on the straight at Road America.

Yep, seen that car. Quite cool.
But not a F1 is it.

When the F1 cars are so sensitive that a split exaust pipe can cause aero disturbance to the effect of 0.5 seconds a lap I just can't see where you can fit chambers into the rear end of a F1 car.

I don't think the expansion chambers are the issue since it all blows out the diffuser. I think there are other issues that come into play. (My father, a race car mechanic, explained it to me once but I've burned or bashed those brain cells...)

I'd have to think that a 2T class would bring costs way down.

i would think the smaller lighter engine would be more beneficial than anything. and believe me, they could figure out where to put the expansion chambers if they had to

Imo, and lets not forget the 2t sled engine Miata which ran 24 hours no problems(On a cvt Tranny Ha). As for problems, again look at the 2 stroke C series race car I posted above.

It would be great if there was a 2 stroke "formula 1" car series, for the main reason that it would allow a bit of diversity, simply having the different engine type allowed. Rotaries too.
