I have plugged the exhaust with some High temp putty stuff. I think it will do the trick. As for the spooge. The guy i bought the bike from said the gas in the tank is pretty old and that i should run it out as quick as possible and put some fresh stuff in there. I'm thinkin that might make it clear up a bit. He seemed to know a great deal about these bikes... How hard is it to jet leaner? Info please.

Do you trail ride or track ride? If you are trail you riding, you don't want it any louder at all. Loud bikes lose riding areas.

Im gunna be using it for track mostly with maybe some trails and open terrain.

I was thinking of polishing the frame on my 2004 YZ250. I hear it is a hard and messy job. But I'm curious is to how its done. And how long it takes??

Im leaning towards a powercore. As the bike already has plenty of bottom...  ;D and i dont really want it to be too much louder.

The boot is not loose at all. I think my best bet might be some high temp sealer...

That rubber part is a sleeve that loosend with age.
Make sure it is centered over the Pipe/silencer joint, and put a zip tie in each of the grooves, and Pull them down good and tight.

The boot seems to be centered and tight as it is. I guess i could pick up some new ties and cut the old ones and see if i can center it better...

On my KTM there is a rubber boot where the exhaust connects to the silencer. KTM wants of $30 for this little piece of rubber...  I when to the local automotive store, and found a radiator hose that was the same size for $10.  Where the pipe connects to the cylinder, I added high temp RTV silicone to ensure a good seal.

I believe there are two boots on it with plastic hose clamps. Ive included a pic at the top of the thread so everyone can see exactly what I'm talking about.

Yeah i was thinking of a shorty. But Ive heard shorty's are really loud and im not sure i want that....

Technical / Re: The best way to get the right Premix ratio??
« on: July 31, 2010, 08:50:39 PM »
@ JETZcorp. Yes I plan to just put the oil in the bottom and then fill it up with premium. Hopefully the pump will do the mixing for me. And with ratio funnel i picked up today there will be no guessing :)

General Two Stroke Talk / Small Exhaust leak? How can i fix it?

Me and my brother went for a short ride around our neighbor hood today and he noticed when i got back that smoke was coming out of where the pipe connects to the exhaust. And it also spits some of that famous nasty left over 2 stroke on the swing arm. I included a pic. As you can see it leaks right out of the boot. what can i do to eliminate it?

I have 2 bikes that do not have chokes, they have what you call a tickler.  The tickler does one of three things.

1. Nothing
2. Primes the engine so it can start
3. Floods the engine

I have found that it's usually 1 & 3 for me, I've never mastered the art of cocegas.

So, for those bikes I have a most unusual starting method.  I take a hose and blow into the overflow for a few seconds.  Then I just kick it with the throttle closed and it usually starts within a kick or two.

How to start a KTM 495

#'s 1 & 3.....LMFAO :D :D :D Just like being in Amal country.

BTW braap, regardless of your conditions,if you can start without choke, you're too rich off the bottom for those conditions.

What should I do then? I mean i didnt think any harm would come from being a little bit rich. Im not fouling plugs either.
