General Two Stroke Talk / Some ??? About grips throttle tubes and levers.
« on: September 20, 2010, 12:07:43 PM »
Okay I went riding for the 2nd time yesterday but unfortunately I highsided my bike and it broke the front brake lever clean off and busted up the end of the new plastic throttle tube i had just put in. Another thing is my grips are slipping on the bars a little bit. I'm currently using the hairspray method for the grips, but hairspray alone is not enough to keep them from twisting around. I know I'm supposed to safety wire them but I don't know where to get the right stuff. The wire i got is wayy to heavy of a guage. And I'm also curious if the aluminum throttle tubes are really worth the extra cash?? As for the levers I just plan to replace them both. Also, is there a better airfilter then the stock one?

General Two Stroke Talk / Cheap way to get black rims for YZ250??
« on: September 18, 2010, 02:43:25 PM »
I was thinking of putting black wheels on my yz. But the problem is that they are sooo expensive for the excel brand. And in don't want to get a cheaper knock off brand because let's face it. Your wheels are like your bikes legs. And I don't want them breaking or bending in anyway. I thought of powder coating the ones that are on there but have heard that a really bad idea as they tend to chip and warp. So guys you got any suggestions???

General Two Stroke Talk / Finally went riding yesterday!!!
« on: September 12, 2010, 10:56:25 AM »
I finally got to take my YZ250 out with my brother and his friend yesterday. I rode my YZ250 my bro rode one of his buds 3 wheelers and our friend took his mighty CR500 out!! OMG it was sooo much fun :) i got about 2 hours of solid seat time in. We went to Rancho in Zephryhills if there is anyone in south Florida that reads this they might know the place. Unfortunatly. It was very wet and mud was everywhere "it's very hilly so there were alot of pits filled with sandy mud" and around the mud was wet sand. So slick stuff everywhere!! It was flooded to bad to explore the whole area where I would had been able to really open the bike up. But I did get some turn practice and the dreaded whoops were all over the place! I'm still not very comfortable standin up yet. I always accidently twist the throttle. Can anyone give me some tips on how to overcome this??? Anyways I fell 3 times while we were there and had one close call in the whoopty doos lol. All 3 falls were on turns of course the 1st one sucked cuz it was right in a mud pit!! Worst part is I pushed the sob out of it in gear!! The mud made the bike weigh like 2x as much! Stupidity on my part not to put it in neutral lol. The other two falls were not in mud but when I was trying to corner faster. Later that night my arms and legs felt so sore. I feel better today just might right leg still hurts from falling on then kicking the bike back over several times lol. I just got done with washing and maintenance on the bike. I really wanna go next weekend bit it may be too wet. I guess I will see.

I'm just curious how much the average 250 2 Stroke makes in Horsepower and in Torque, compared to the big 450F thumpers????

Also, A buddy of mine who rides an 06 RM250 came over tonight and we were talking about how much power my YZ250 most likely made. I guessed anywhere around 44-46HP. He said thats too low and that his RM is makin like 55HP!! I immediately called Bull$hit. and he said with his exhaust setup "its a stock pipe with Pro Circuit shorty ???" that it wasn't an unreasonable number....  Now this kid has been ridin motocross for 4 years now. And I may be new. But I know aint no stock 250 "And his is. no motor work done" is gunna make 55 Ponies... Thats close to the numbers the old 500 dino's made right??? anyways, sorry that this took longer to explain than the original question lol.

General Two Stroke Talk / Going riding next weekend switching oils???
« on: August 25, 2010, 08:20:04 PM »
Hey guys, I've got another question. I ran out of the bel-Ray h1r and am taking my new yz250 out for the first time next weekend. It still hasn't been rejetted. I plan to do that after I finally get to have some fun on it. But my question can I switch over to maxima castor 927 without any problems for the weekend??? I mixed the bel-Ray 40:1 and plan to mix the maxima 32:1... Thanks guys.

Okay so yesterday i was trying to figure out what the screws do on my carb. so i took the bike of the stand started it up and took it down the road in my neighborhood, I did this a couple of times. I passed this lawn care service that eventually stopped me. They said they rode too. And said my bike is smokin up a storm. I told them the situation and they said it definitely needs jetted. He said one easy way he could tell is that the pipe is not discolored at all where it connects to the motor. therefore mostly likely running too cool. He told me they had their own small motorcycle shop just up the road and that they could jet it for me. "One of the guys is a fellow two smoker lover" I asked them how much they wanted to jet the bike for this florida weather. They said they come through my neighborhood every week and would come talk to me about it.

I've been wanting to get the bike jetted ever since i got it. But I just don't have the time myself.. So I've been looking for a reasonable motorcycle mechanic that won't charge me an arm and a leg just to jet it. I'm currently using Bel-Ray HR1 but am wanting to use Klotz oils as i have buddies who love that stuff. If i switch over will it have to be jetted for that kind of oil?  I'm runnin 40:1 with the bel-ray but would prefer to run 32:1. "I'm just mixing at the previous owners ratio".

General Two Stroke Talk / Can Fouled plugs still spark when taken out?
« on: August 18, 2010, 10:47:46 AM »
Just curious, As a couple of days ago i changed the oil in my bike. And started it up and just let it run for about two minutes since it had been sitting a while. But the trouble is that i shut it off. And later it wouldn't start back up. It had fuel. So i pulled the plug out it was a light brown and it was wet. "I know that means too rich. I'm still working on that"  But when i plugged it into the boot and kicked over it sparked pretty good? Can it still be fouled???

Technical / Some help on leaning out my YZ250 please?
« on: August 16, 2010, 09:10:36 AM »
Okay. So I know my bike is running too rich. And I Know it may need to be jetted. But I don't really know where to start? How do I go about leaning the carby out???

Next Weekend I plan to take my YZ250 out to my local motocross track that has a main Motocross track "The Main track is made of loamy sand and a little bit of clay." , an oval track, and the newly added SX track that is made of a clay mixture ;D. Anyways I'm sure I will get tips from the riders there, but I wanted to hear from you fellow sand riders. I'm new to riding motocross so I'm looking for tips on the basics like corners and stuff like that. I hear its all about the corners :) I also hear that If you can ride in sand, you can ride in anything. So please guys tell me how to rail those berms so i can impress the ladies and not fall constantly like a noob  :D

Technical / How to make front brake on my YZ feel firm???
« on: August 13, 2010, 07:49:15 AM »
Okay so last night after i finally got that old oil drain plug out i decided to check on the brakes. The rear is solid. The front however feels quite spongey and the fluid is old. so i changed the fluid and rebled the brakes with my brother the problem is they dont seem to get firm like i want them.... and every time he fills the reservoir there is a bubble on the 1st squeeze of the lever. What does that mean???  I guess what I'm really asking is how to get the front brake nice and firm???

The previous owner of my bike said his brother tried to change the oil on it once and he stripped the hell out of the bolt and OMG he did!
Not only is the nut part stripped but the little spanner like ring around it has been etched and gouged at... Anyways. Me and my brother tried EVERYTHING to get it off with what we had in the garage and nothing worked... We finally went to our local Home Depot to get a screw/bolt extractor we brought it home drilled a hole in the oil plug and put the extractor in and twisted and twisted then all of the sudden SNAP! goes the extractor "And this thing was made of tempered steel" A much harder metal than the oil plug. Anyways. I have no where else to turn the bolt itself is literally almost gone.  So i figure i will have to take it to someone to have it machined out or something like that. I live in Lakeland Florida and don't know who or where i should take it. And help would be nice. I would really like to be able to change the oil  ;D
