General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Cheap way to get black rims for YZ250??
« on: September 23, 2010, 11:51:50 AM »
Sorry for the confusion Sheriff, But when I said wheel I meant the rim alone. Okay, $89 per wheel, How much is it for the spokes and anything else necessary?

I wouldn't even consider powder coating. I can get that done myself. They need to be anodized if i want them to last or just get new ones that are already anodized. But Excel wants too much than i can afford right now.

General Two Stroke Talk / Some ??? About grips throttle tubes and levers.
« on: September 20, 2010, 12:07:43 PM »
Okay I went riding for the 2nd time yesterday but unfortunately I highsided my bike and it broke the front brake lever clean off and busted up the end of the new plastic throttle tube i had just put in. Another thing is my grips are slipping on the bars a little bit. I'm currently using the hairspray method for the grips, but hairspray alone is not enough to keep them from twisting around. I know I'm supposed to safety wire them but I don't know where to get the right stuff. The wire i got is wayy to heavy of a guage. And I'm also curious if the aluminum throttle tubes are really worth the extra cash?? As for the levers I just plan to replace them both. Also, is there a better airfilter then the stock one?

No thanks, "Warp" wheels? Does anyone else know why I wouldn't want to buy these lmao. And at under 100 bucks a wheel. That's alarmingly cheap. I'd be better off sticking with the high quality silver Excels that are currently on the bike.

I was actually thinking of blue :) would look way tricker than the simple black.  I was thinking about anodizing??? The wheels themselves are Excel silvers polished real shiny by me :)

I was thinking of putting black wheels on my yz. But the problem is that they are sooo expensive for the excel brand. And in don't want to get a cheaper knock off brand because let's face it. Your wheels are like your bikes legs. And I don't want them breaking or bending in anyway. I thought of powder coating the ones that are on there but have heard that a really bad idea as they tend to chip and warp. So guys you got any suggestions???

CR looks badass. Oh the yammie too :)

Gotta love it when the simple 2 stroke beats up on the almighty complex 4 stroke machine. Especially when a 4 stroke rider dumps his bike in a corner picks the bike up and just starts kicking the snot out of it trying to get it to start back up. And as they have that hopeless exhausted look on their face you come around the corner and braaaaaapppp!!! lol. :D

I've personally never seen a gasgas here in FL. Although the kid in the pic is in FL. Pretty rare bikes if you ask me. Everyone seems to like em though :)

Thanks SocalCajun, I'm gunna try to get out to Rancho this Sunday, 10 percent rain chance here in Florida on that particular day. The rain has been letting up quite a bit recently as we are heading into the fall. Omg I sooo can't wait till it starts to get cooler.. But as I said before I would rather it be a bit wet then really dusty. Dirt boogers and clogged air filters suck lol.

Thanks Scotty, I always look ahead and scan the terrain. I've hear some people just stare at the front fender "I have no idea why some riders have the habit of staring the front fender down.." I could work on gripping the bike with my legs a little more it would relieve some of the pressure in my arms as I'm too tense. But I figure it was my 1st ride so I was happy :)

Yes I ran the 927. It works great.

And yes I freakin loved it!! I think I'm gunna go back next weekend! That is if we don't get anymore rain the mud really sucks... And you can't really open it up that much with mud pits everywhere. But I got lots of practice on sudden direction change lol.

I finally got to take my YZ250 out with my brother and his friend yesterday. I rode my YZ250 my bro rode one of his buds 3 wheelers and our friend took his mighty CR500 out!! OMG it was sooo much fun :) i got about 2 hours of solid seat time in. We went to Rancho in Zephryhills if there is anyone in south Florida that reads this they might know the place. Unfortunatly. It was very wet and mud was everywhere "it's very hilly so there were alot of pits filled with sandy mud" and around the mud was wet sand. So slick stuff everywhere!! It was flooded to bad to explore the whole area where I would had been able to really open the bike up. But I did get some turn practice and the dreaded whoops were all over the place! I'm still not very comfortable standin up yet. I always accidently twist the throttle. Can anyone give me some tips on how to overcome this??? Anyways I fell 3 times while we were there and had one close call in the whoopty doos lol. All 3 falls were on turns of course the 1st one sucked cuz it was right in a mud pit!! Worst part is I pushed the sob out of it in gear!! The mud made the bike weigh like 2x as much! Stupidity on my part not to put it in neutral lol. The other two falls were not in mud but when I was trying to corner faster. Later that night my arms and legs felt so sore. I feel better today just might right leg still hurts from falling on then kicking the bike back over several times lol. I just got done with washing and maintenance on the bike. I really wanna go next weekend bit it may be too wet. I guess I will see.

It's possible that a weirdly-calibrated dyno might push those kind of numbers, but it sounds like a classic case of "bench dyno" to me.  Like when my neighbor claimed he used to have a Bultaco 500 (which, of course, was never made.)  Sounds similar to this "Pro Circuit Shorty" business.  Or like various characters in Super Hunky's book would say, "I used have onna them.  Went like a raped ape, she'd do a hunnert mile an hour in second gear on any slope!"  Yeah, sure.

The numbers I've heard for modern, stock 250s generally go from about 44 to 48.  The numbers I've memorized are 46 for the YZ, 48 for the SX, and an epic 53 for the MMX.  Not sure who is talking about rear-wheel horsepower and who (if anyone) is talking about brake horsepower, but that's just what's published.  I think that if someone is talking about crankshaft power, it'd be easy to guess who it is.  I still don't think it matters a whole helluva lot in the real world, though.

Torque, I couldn't tell you.  I could do some math to find that the torque is at the point of peak power, if I knew what RPM that was achieved at, but of course torque and horsepower peak at different revs so it would be meaningless.

Yup I think 44-48 HP is reasonable for the modern 250's And with engine mods and work, I don't know what they could achieve even though it may make them pinging time bombs  :D
