General Two Stroke Talk / mxa used 125 build and 144 shootout

^^ I would love that ST, but it would have to be regionalised... Even then, it may be tough to fill gates. Great idea however.

Maybe a one off type of event in regions?

^^^  kudos to you GP for being able to decipher what TS is saying... It is flogging a dead horse trying to reason however... The truth hurts and TS has his eyes closed and ears plugged...

^^^ yeah... Tanks! I hated lifting a 250f up onto the stand as well... The KTM 125/250 is a piece of cake. The weight is very noticeable when riding too(for me).

Steve Lamson showed what a 125 can do when he whipped everybody at the MXdN... But most people aren't that capable or lack the will to shred on a 125. Your example is a great one ST.

With DI and whatnot coming on now, someone is actually wasting time and money to try to build a better carburetor?Seriously?
Kudos to them if it works but it's a shame they're too late. There may be a very small market in retrofits but not much else I expect.Sort of like trying to build a super-horse to replace the car.

Very interesting POV... I am fixated on this carb and will probably try it anyway... I was always interested in the "PSI BIG AIR" carbs years ago too.

Technical / KTM carb swap 38/36mm?????
« on: October 18, 2012, 10:38:12 PM »
Thanks 2SR... You must be reading my mind, I spent all day reading about the APT carb. I am getting one for sure, can't wait. Yep,the 125 has a bigger carb. The 36 is for low end response I guess on the 250... I think with the swap, I need a larger MJ, 1 pr 2 sizes.

Haha, I spent a long time reading about it too. I am sure you were reading through the GasGas forum talk about it. I want to join just to get those dyno charts, etc. that he posted there. Any other info you saw besides that and their website?

It really seems like a sweet product. It would be perfect for the impossible to jet 380s. And 10% more power? That would be crazy. Auto elevation adjust? Perfect for guys like me who suck at jetting.

I am new to understanding carbs, but a 38mm on a 125? Seems like it wouldn't be able to get any fuel, and get nothing at low revs. If they choose a 36 over a 38 for a 250 to get some bottom end, then a 38 on a 125 sounds like it would be super peaky. I think it would be worth the experiment to swap them and see the results.

Yep... Read all that and the site. The Pikes Peak results were impressive... I have been in contact with the original buyer, he LOVES the carb. I will get it, the CNC version. Yeah, it really seems to be legit. I like new stuff and look forward to this.

I bet the 38/40 would rule on the 380...  Yep, big carbs are the norm for small bores... KTMs came with 39mm for a ling time. My Husky 150 had a bored to 39 from 38 and divider plate from RB... Speaking of that, the APT owner says the bored/divider plate carb isnt even close to the Smart Carb...

I will play around with the two, but will have the Smart Carb on the 250 sooner than later.

10 plus pages on the GG forum shows alot of interest... 1 guy has the 38mm version and is raving about it... There is a lot of info and GG has been testing these as well. I plan on one for my '13 250sx.

ok... I have a '12 125 with a 38mm PWK and a '13 250 with a 36mm PWK-

I thought about going oval bore, etc on both with a little other work, but I am curious to this swap, especially with the 250. I have read about a couple of guys going with a 38mm on their 250/300's and seem to really like it. Both carbs are identical dimensionally, just the bore is different.

My main questions are... will the bore changes/swap affect the actual jetting that much? Can I just change out the slides/jets/etc.? Then adjust from there if required?

Should I just leave well enough alone? Thanks TSM crew.

Yep.... It was a conspiracy!... Why can't people accept the fact that the U.S. had just plain lost and was not the better team that day? Bagget sucked for the second year in a row and Dungey simply didn't show up... If there is any blame to be assigned, blame it on lame azz StupidCross and the Influence it has on tracks outdoors... but, quite simply, the U.S. got beaten soundly and it was not there day... I was super stoked for the Germans....

General Two Stroke Talk / wish bone for service honda cr500?
« on: September 30, 2012, 05:17:53 AM »
Hi all,
was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy the wishbone for my frame so I can put in a cr500 motor in my bike?
Thx for any input!!!

you can't buy one, at least not from service honda or MPS services. they wont sell it to you, they want you to get them to do it.....for 1500$. They'd get a lot more business if they sold them with instructions.

then when one of the installed wishbones break, it will be SH or MPS's fault.... not the backyard or "certified" welder's fault... this is why they don't sell kits.Way too much of a liability in safety as well as business.(at least in my 2 cent opinion)
