Looks like they have the XC tank on it, is the stock SX tank too small for a GP?

I thought they were just selling off old stock, did not know they were still manufacturing them.  Is this a proven fact, or just conjecture/story telling?

Non-Moto / Re: Stupid Or embarrassing things you have done on a bike
« on: September 07, 2011, 05:52:49 AM »
I've got a similar one - back abound '91 I went trail riding with some friends who all had 250 MX'ers, and I was on a fully modded '84 RM 125 that made absolutely no power until about 10,000 RPM and signed off at about 12,000 - not an ideal trail bike!!  We came to a brook crossing on a power line, and they all torqued through, splashing through about 2 feet of water and throwing roosted mud about 30' in the air.  I was the last one through, and knew there was no way to make it through without some serious approach speed, so it hit it 4th gear pinned.  About half way across, my front tire dropped into one of the 250's ruts and over the bars I went, into the water.  My leg was pinned under the bike and it was all I could do to keep my mouth above the water level.  I thought I was going to drown, but like most buddies, instead of helping, they just laughed hysterically......

I love hunting and fishing, but it seems like every place in my area is getting closed down.  I shot a 208lb * point whitetail about 5 miles from my house 2 years ago, went back to the same spot last year and it was stripped off an posted.  Same with my best fishing spot - no more access to the lake.  It is more discouraging than fun now.  My son will be old enough to hunt next year, but I probably won't have any place to bring him!!

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Poll: Chest protection
« on: August 24, 2011, 08:01:19 AM »
I won't ride without mine, a Fox Airframe.  It's a little bulky but has great protection.  In my very first race, a Junior Enduro in 1981 at Bear Brook State Park in New Hampshire, I was about 2-3 miles in when I hit a buried rock 3rd gear wide open on my '78 RM125.  It pitched me right over the bars and I landed on all fours, I thought I was OK until the bike smashed right down on my back w/ no chest or back protection.  I was coughing up blood for about half an hour.  I was wearing an old, very thick football jersey, there was an outline of the chain and rear sprocket left on the shirt, and right in the middle a big blood stain where the axle bolt (w/ cotter pin) took a chunk of meat out of my back.  2 inches to the right and it would have been my spine....

Right now I'm sitting at a computer trying to make sense some bone-head electrical engineer's printed circuit board design so I can come up with a quote to get it built.  You want to talk about logging being a dying industry, try PCB manufacturing.  Unless it has to be extremely quick-turn or for the US Gov't, it is just about all done out of the US now.  20 years ago when I was fresh out of college, this industry was booming, figured I'd be able to retire at 50......

« on: August 23, 2011, 05:45:15 AM »
Gas mileage is a strange thing.  I had a 1998 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 4x4 with the 318, 5.2L, that got 13-14 mpg, now I have a 1999 version of the same truck, but with the 360, 5.9L.  It has almost 200k on it, and it gets 17-18 mpg!!  I'm not complaining about that!!

You can use one in Maine now, but in the regular firearms season, not the archery season unless you are disabled.

I always love the Can-Am rotary engines.  I rode a friend's father's 1980 350 (actually it was only a 273 but they called it a 350) back when it was new.  That had the best engine I have ever ridden for nasty, snotty Northeastern Enduros to this day - kind of like a KDX200 motor on steroids!  Now, the drum brakes, 35mm Marzocci forks and dual Girling shocks were a different story.....

Technical / Re: 07 YZ450F Suspension on a YZ250
« on: August 18, 2011, 12:57:14 PM »
Everything I have read says that the '06 to current YZ250 forks are about the best on the market.  As long as they are sprung for your weight, maybe a re-valve for your style and riding conditions, and you can't get much better.  Much more plush than the older models on my '98 YZ250!!!

With my limited speed (mid-pack Vet C rider), I am faster around a track on a 4 stroke, but I will never own one.  If it blew up on me, it would probably take a year to save up the money to fix it.  I will stick with the 2-stroke, I like riding too much!!

I haven't been on the YZ yet this year, knee surgery, septic system problems, and rebuilding the TS185 I bought.  August in Maine, snow is right around the corner!!!  I better get out soon....
