They are talking about the FIM MX3 class, no AMA involved.

General Two Stroke Talk / Shoulder injury
« on: May 31, 2012, 01:48:18 PM »
Premixed - sounds like we have the same shoulder!!  I had surgery on mine in 1983 when I was 17 to tighten everything back up, but like the typical teenager I didn't listen to the doctor and do all the strengthening exercises I should have, and it started dislocating again 2 years later.

Vintage Two Strokes / 1983 YZ 490
« on: May 23, 2012, 01:36:23 PM »
That year YZ490 was the first Open Class 2 stroke I ever rode, it had the proper head mods and porting to get rid of the detonation and blubbering.  I was racing a YZ125 and a Maico 250 that year and got to ride the bike at my practice track.  I remember twisting the throttle WFO and thinking I wasn't going very fast because it wasn't screaming at 10,000 RPM, until I hit the first corner going about 20 mph faster than I expected and blew right through!!!  Even though I am faster around a track on a 125, I still love Open Class 2 strokes!!!!  Your bike looks great!

I guess I won't be watching many nationals this year.  I don't get Fuel on Comcast, I do get NBC Sports, but it was on from 1:00 to 3:00 AM Sunday morning!!  What an effin' joke!!!

I had a '79 Z-28 that looked very stock except for the wider rear tires and fiberglass cowl induction hood that was a super sleeper.  I built a really hot 327 for it, then added a 200 hp NOS nitrous kit to it.  I embarrassed quite a few people with that one!!!

General Two Stroke Talk / The ugliest CR ever ?

Free-stylers almost always cut their seats down so they don't catch their boots on them during tricks.

I was wondering about good old JETZCorp the other day.  Wonder what ever happened to him, he must have had thousands of posts.....  Hope he didn't go over to the dark side and get rid of his old Kawi's & Husky's!

Technical / Boyesen Rad Valve VS V-force 3
« on: April 15, 2012, 02:32:11 PM »
I think we've had this same discussion on at least 2-3 other threads, it's been pretty well beaten.  My preference is the V-Force, tried both back to back on my 250, and the V-Force definitely makes it easier to hold 3rd gear through corners, with the stocker and the Boyesen,  I had to downshift to 2nd to stay on the pipe without bogging.  Much easier to clear jumps right out of turns with the V-Force.

"A camshaft with long duration lobes is going to have vacuum problems, plenum box or not. But yeah less plenum doesnt help either"

Yeah, but the rough idle sounds sooooo cool!!!

That's more than I have spent on my YZ250 in the last 6 years, including the purchase price!!!  What a bunch of fools...

Technical / Rear sproket drop?
« on: March 27, 2012, 02:24:01 PM »
My YZ250 had 14/50 sprockets and I wanted to gear it down a little to get into 3rd gear quicker so I went to a 14/52, and it was too much - 3rd revs out too quickly now.  I should have only gone 1 tooth, a 14/51 would have been perfect.
