Finished pictures of 1993 Honda CR250
« on: May 22, 2010, 04:13:15 PM »
Finally finished the 1993 Honda CR250 I've been working on for the last year.
Took five kicks to get it to fire on intial start, it starts with one or two now.

This is what I plan to race against all those 250Fs, should be a hoot.

That is beautiful. I have a 1993 CR125 that I am toying with the idea of doing something like this to. If you don't mind me asking, roughly how much did this cost you? Don't know the condition of your bike when you started but mine is... not so good.  ???  The engine is good but otherwise it looks rough and I think the suspension needs work.

Well, this should be a nice experiment in old-vs-new in amateur racing. :)  As much as I don't like Honda, I really must say that's a sharp-looking bike.  The whole rear 3/4 is an aesthetic no-contest against brand-new bikes; this just blows then away.  The number plates in particular are very superior to what we've been seeing on those 2011 KTMs, for example.  It's simple and easy to read and understand, but doesn't do that silly blending-into-the-fender thing that makes them look goofy.  This bike appreciates the value of acute angles, and I think it's about as good as the post-'80s style has gotten, in the rear end.  Good luck with this thing, I hope you wipe out all the obese valve-pushers.

Is this Maico a 440 or only a 400?  Well in all the confusion, I forgot myself.
But considering this is a 1978 Magnum, the best-handling bike in the world, you have to ask yourself one question.
Do you feel lucky, punk?

Like I said last time. That thing is amazing. I still cant believe you are going to ride it, let alone race it. Should be a feature inside your living room !!!!!!!!!!!

Now that's an awesome bike, even though I am partial to red.  :D
Please let us know how it rides and how things go at the races.

Super clean and correct right down to the last detail.Even around the engine it looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Many hours there.Good job 8)
I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

Dogger - your attention to detail is absolutely incredible. This machine is probably even better than it was when it rolled off the showroom floor.

I know that if I wanted a bike built up by someone, you would be the guy I called!!

It's a crying shame dogger didn't work for Maico back in the day.Things may have turned out differently. ;D

Don't know the condition of your bike when you started
Here is what I started with:

This was a scratch build.  By that, I mean I started with nothing.  I purchased
a pair of new engines cases from Honda and many months and (many dollars)
later, the bike you see is the result.  It was built from all new Honda parts
(along with some aftermarket goodies I still had laying around the shop).

After riding this and not being able to wipe the grin off my face, I can
easily recommend to anyone contemplating a late model restoration or
build - GO FOR IT!  I can also say that switching back to two strokes was
one of the best decision I ever made.  Next up is a CR500AF from scratch.
