Sweet bike, I think that McGrath rode a 93' the whole time he was with honda (The firts time that is). Its only missing one thing, One of those rectangle "Camel Supercross" stickers under the honda wing on the radiator shroud.

Wow! That thing definately looks like you just cracking it out of the crate. Good work! Now I'll ask the no response question again.....Roughly how much for the resto? No one will freak out, I promise.

Well, I might freak out.  If the number is five digits, or two digits, I think I'm entitled to a mild freak-out.  Other than that, I don't see any freak-outs in my future.

Believe it or not the shroud graphics came with that Camel decal, I cut them off.
I actually ran the Honda Wing graphic just like you see, on my 93 back in 93.
It was mounted high enough on the shroud that my knee didn't shred it (like the
OE graphic) after a couple of motos. 

Roughly how much for the resto? No one will freak out

I'm with Jetz, I freak out everytime I pull out the receipts. 
First the disclaimer.  New parts builds are not for the faint-of-heart 
and I knew going into this it would cost several times more than a
new CR250 did in 1993.  Now for the answer, what I just said about
the cost was right on the money.   

I just started doing the cost analysis for a CR500AF build.  I believe I can
beat Service Honda's price and still finish with an all new bike. This should
be both fun and challeging, can't wait to get started.

Looks ready to race.  Notice the serious effort put into making the bike
lighter by removing all unneccessary (and many neccessary) parts.

Is/was that a 78 or 79?

79, although 78-80 is the red rocket, pretty much the same for those 3 years.  I had a 79, I got it for 100.  Sold it for like 300, 10 years ago.  Probably shouldn't have done that considering that year's value these days.

I have a soft spot for the Red Rockets.  Here are a couple of pictures of my '79.  
While it's 100% ready to race, it just sits in my shop and looks pretty.

Dogger, all that bike is missing is the "claw-action" tires and it would be just like the machine I rolled off the showroom floor in 1979!

That bike is awesome looking.  I saw an original for sale last year out of the crate with the original sticker still on the top of the tank, it was selling for $8k.  

You should spray paint the head gold and say you got a DG Head.   That always cracks me up when I see it in ads, "Got a DG Head, $1 million dollars!"  Spray paint the fenders gold, look DG fenders!

"claw-action" tires

Weren't those some of the worst tires you ever saw?  The claw action
was a euphamism for all the "action" you got as the tires "clawed
unsuccessfully, for traction. 

I remember the first thing I did (after riding the bike up and down the
street a couple of times), was replace those tires with some Dunlops.

Got a DG Head, $1 million dollars!

DG and Mugen.  Throw the head into a blender, paint it gold and viola'

Man that '79 is sweet. I would love to pick up an MX bike around 77-78 and refurbish it. Notice I said refurbish, not restore, because restored pics are too pretty to ride and I would want to ride it  . I started to do an original restore on my 1988 KX, but figured it would be more fun to just set it up like I need for the local trails and ride it and not worry about breaking or scratching it. I did completely redo the engine over winter though.
