I just picked up a 7.3 Powerstroke with a few mods (chip, exhaust and intake). Tons of power and still better fuel economy than my F150 4.6 gas!

What year?

my '97 got 21 mpg (but had a 3.55 rear end). Rated at 235 HP (and a monster number for torque that I can't remember).

my '01 that I use now gets like 16 on a good day. Same 7.3 engine but Ford tuned it up to 265 HP. It has a 3.73 rear end.

I liked the older engine better. Enough power and MUCH easier on the fuel.

Imo 2 stroke diesels work amazingly well, and are used on oil tankers and freight ships today due to  their simplicity, efficiency, and reliability.  Even the old 2 stroke diesel trains worked great, diesel mechanics would comment on how everything would look brand upon tear down, and how they literally didn't have to do much to keep them running.

I picked up a 96 F250 4x4 5 speed extra cab. I needed something to haul wood, water and a camper (with a trailer and bikes ;D) and I've really come to like the truck. I chose an older truck for better fuel economy, bio diesel compatibility and the fact that All of my friends and brother have had serious reliability issues with their newer diesel trucks.

I had heard that as well regarding the 6.0 and newer motors - which is why I stuck with the 7.3 when I "upgraded" to the more family friendly crew cab. Despite its additional thirs I really like the truck as well. Total problems so far? A couple of electric door locks the no longer function.

I've had a 2006, 2009 and now a 2013 F250 with diesel. No issues with any of them.

Great!  iMHO any of the big three diesel pickups are very strong tools.

Did you chip any of your fords?

Hey Foghorn, are you ditching those Fords as soon as they come off warranty? ;)

Seriously, I had a Ford 6.0 let go and it wasn't cheap to fix. The new 6.7 was engineered by an Austrian design firm and I wonder how they are standing up?
