2012 or 2013 YZ125
« on: July 30, 2012, 07:31:00 PM »
I can get a 2012 for $5900. Does anyone know if the 2013 will have any updates? I kinda expect it will be the same.

buy a 06 and put 2k into it and you'll have one amazing bike, better than a brand new 13'
suspension revalve for you, custom plastic/graphics/engine rebuild/scalvini pipe and silencer/etc

also 13's are the same as the 12's

I would go with the 13'.
The bike will be way faster with BNG. ;)

Hahaha What he said again.

On a serious note, do what Twosmoke said. I think the last update on the YZ EXCLUDING bng was a kickstarter or something and that was on the 07, it was something extremely minor anyway. Don't quote me there though. I'd get a 2005 at a cheap as chips price and mod it out like nothing else. Wish I could

nope. nothing new and not worth the higher price youd pay. the bike has had BNG since....like 08?

the last major changes were 06 and it received minor changes for a few years. i think we need to do a forum dedicated to explaining bikes and the changes over the years.

only problem with getting a used bike for cheaper is that it has had the shit canned out of it for 6 years.

bushes and bearings will all need replacing: swing arm bushes, bearings and seals, wheel bearings, head stock bearings, etc
full engine rebuild: piston, rod, bearings, seals, gaskets, oil, coolant
new pipe if its damaged
re pack the silencer
new air filter
new tires
potentially new discs and pads and brake fluid

2500 for a second hand bike plus a 1500+ for the above (parts only), so that $4600 brand new 06 yz is seeming rather cheap.

Jeram, that deppends!

If you search for a while you'll see very abused bikes and some very clean. We use to see some adverts of stunning bikes for sale here on TSM.

The last big improvement that yz received was the SSS suspension in 06, i guess, besides that, only minor upgrades that don't worth spending money on the latest year model.

Search for a clean used bike, try to deal a good price and you'll keep some money to adjust the bike to your riding style!

Let us know when you get the bike!!

Thanks for all the replies. Earlier this year I considered the KTM and while it may be a better race bike I plan on sticking with the Yamaha. I know the bikes, have a good dealer, and the SSS suspention makes me faster than I really am. I just have no info on the 2013's and didn't want to miss anything. I got a fall project that allows me to buy new so thats the way to go. That 06 may be a deal but IMO would need fork seals, bearing seals, and maybe crank seals. Rubber hardens over years. I live in FL and buy my bikes from NY dealer. I found some cheaper ones (2012) on Craislist at some dealers but never did have luck with them down here. Anything quoted by "barneys" is a scam, add $600 to anything they say once your at the dealership. If anyone knows a decent FL dealer I would consider buying down here but to be honest I would still get parts from NY.

I like how everyone at TSM gets pumped up about anyone getting a 125. I noticed this on other threads about 125's. The two most fun bikes to ride are over powered 500's and 125's. My 250 is middle of the road. Truth is only one can be ridden wide open and what a feeling that is. Any of you younger guys that race should at least have one to train on.

ive been thinking about doing this for a while
doing each model, say go back to 2000 and each year say what changed, which bike in the class won the shootout, and why each one got what place in the shootout, and do that for each year up until 2013, and keep updating it
