Is your slide bottoming properly in the carb?

If I let the clutch out just until it starts disengaging the idle will drop to normal and while riding I can close the throttle and it won't rev out

I just had that issue with my bike. Take the carb off the bike, but leave the throttle cable in the carb. Looks inside and see if the slide is closing off the entire passage way in the carb. If it isn't seating (closing off all flow of air into the engine) then there is your problem.

Thanks  ;D

To see if its an air leak, try loosening all the clamps, make sure the carb is right where it needs to be so that both ends are in a rubber connection, and then tighten the clamps again. Also, make sure the clamps are tightening down between the metal of the carb and and the rubber, not off of it. And see if there is a tear or hole in the rubber, that would do it to. Good luck finding this issue out  :)

^^^This. It's not uncommon to have the cable housing slip out of the top of the carb and hook on the flange when you take it off(or depending on the carb, have the threaded piece unscrewed). This pulls up on the cable and will do what you describe.Pull back the rubber boot at the top of the carb and look. Also ck that your cable is routed properly and not pulling on it.

I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

Hi,new to the forum from downunder.
I have a 1991 Honda CR 125 which idles high every now and then.
Reading the above posts i noticed mention of the slide not going all the way down could cause high idle.
I took my slide out and noticed there is some sort of coating (teflon?)which looks like it could be from standard.
It is worn completely off in some sections.
Could this be causing the slide to stick sometimes ?
Cheers,
Greg
