Alright I want to race motocross next year and I either want the YZ125 or the YZ250. I'm 5'6 and 125 pounds and I'm 15. I was scared to go past 3rd gear pinned on a 185 4 stroke dirt bike but that was a year ago. Will he YZ125 have the torque of that 185

check out the KX 100, a little smaller than a 125 and the perfect stepping stone from a mini.
If a pair of 2" brass balls isn't working, I doubt that the 3" model will make much difference.

I also agree an 85 big wheel would be good too, you can always install a torque spacer for $35 to increase the bottom end and add some weight to the flywheel.

Wow....a 125 or 250 for a begginer on a moto track? Your gonna kill your self.

I would get something smaller and trail ride for a while first....just my opinion.

Good luck

A Honda 150r four stroke would probably be good and I'm sure has more torque than a 125 but I have only rode the f version.   I think a 125 would be ok

If you were starting a career in trail riding, I might recommend the 250 simply because it's got the kind of low-end that can keep you from being trapped at the bottom of a big scary canyon, that a 125 might require more skill to overcome.  But, because you're apparently going into racing and will therefore actually using the bike to its potential, I have to say a 125 or smaller sounds best.

Is this Maico a 440 or only a 400?  Well in all the confusion, I forgot myself.
But considering this is a 1978 Magnum, the best-handling bike in the world, you have to ask yourself one question.
Do you feel lucky, punk?

If you're a beginner and have a the natural tendency to be a little spastic with the throttle at times,a 250 2t will hurt you.
I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

Jetz you must do different trail riding then me.
A 250 hitting the power band going up a steep incline when riden by a novice will put you back where you came from. :-[

Start of on a KX100 and see how you go.
If you don't fall off you are not going hard enough

I say a 125, the kx100 hits harder(I've ridden both). Plus the 125 is pushing his height range, and if it is scary put a governor on it to at least learn how to ride.

As an FYI, if you listen to this and get a CRF150R please do not return and cry to us about how the motor just blew and it will be $2,000 to fix.   8)  If it is offroad, a CRF230F is a good bike, but it is heavy.  A mini like many of these guys posted about, would be light. 85's and 100's.

because the bikes he's riding only have 3 gears, and he doesn't want to break any of them..  ;D

actually the KX100 is an easy bike to calm down, Torque spacer and flywheel weight, most areas have a class for them. I know a kid that destroys grown men on 250 fourstrokes on one. it's bonestock.
If a pair of 2" brass balls isn't working, I doubt that the 3" model will make much difference.

Never seen second gear?  Jesus, my Husky spends 50% of its life in sixth, but the low-gear trails make for better video so I post more of them.
