Thanks guys.I really appreciated the advice & thanks a million jar944 after I read your advice I went out to my garage & used the end of a ballpeen hammer and low and behold it seemed to work great! No more fuel pouring out of the overflow & the 300 Katoom sounds great! I did'nt get to ride it yesterday but I plan on riding @ least a few hours tomorrow & hopefully I don't have anymore carb issues!..... :)
I most definitely learned a valuable lesson & that lesson is NOT to take my KTM to a Yamaha/Suzuki shop just because they claim they can work on KTM's. They also told me when I dropped my bike off that they can now order any KTM parts no problem!? Well there was a problem when my bike was @ that shop for 3 & a half weeks & they said they will call me when the levers come in! LOL it's been 5 weeks & still no phone call about the KTM levers that they claimed they could get "no problem"???    :<img src=" title="Roll Eyes" class="smiley"> ><img src=" title="Angry" class="smiley"> :o  :<img src=" title="Roll Eyes" class="smiley">

I recently take my "11" KTM-300xc to a Yamaha/Suzuki dealership to have new brake & clutch levers installed although I had to go get my bike back because they told me the levers are on backorder, no big deal I still have a 2 finger clutch & brake lever:-)
My problem is ever since I got my bike back not only is my Li-ion battery totally dead but my carb is leaking out of the overflow hose steadily after I start the bike? I'm NOT a carb expert by no means but I drained the bowl & tapped on it lightly with my 14mm. wrench & sprayed some carb cleaner up inside the float bowl to no avail??
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!.............. :)

Technical / Is A K&N Air Filter Worth Buying?
« on: May 08, 2012, 03:23:26 PM »
No do not use one on your bike, plus at $120...  :o  Buy a few some good uni-filters (or brand of your choice), keep them preoiled and change frequently.
That sounds like great advice to me eprovenzano. It does seem to get old @ least to me always cleaning my stock twin air filter & buying 5 or 6 more & pre-oiling them is an awesome idea! I always clean my filter after every 2 to 3 rides & I hate cleaning & oiling them big time! Not so much oiling them but cleaning them & waiting & waiting for them to dry really sucks!...............................Thanks for the great advice  :)

Worthless thieves! I have'nt been on TSM for a while but reading this makes me want to install cameras on my property as well as an alarm system! The ATK's are very nice looking bikes & also somewhat rare & hopefully that will make them a little easier to find.

Technical / Is A K&N Air Filter Worth Buying?
« on: May 08, 2012, 06:14:23 AM »
I was recently at my local auto parts store getting oil for my truck & I asked them if they had or could get a K&N air filter for a '11' KTM-300xc. They did'nt have one in stock but they could order one for around $120.00 & I was wondering if it would be worth the price & what kind 'if any' power increase would it make?..... :-

Technical / Best for cleaning engine ?
« on: March 13, 2012, 06:25:32 PM »
I used purple power on my ktm 1 time & it will be the last time period!! I now use either simple green or Motorex cleaner & they both work great! The problem I had with purple power is even when I diluted it 50/50 it still left very ugly stains on the rear fender. Luckily I noticed what it was doing to the white plastic fender before I used too much of it on the rest of my bike!

Technical / Lithium Ion Batteries? Are They Really Better?
« on: February 24, 2012, 03:24:25 AM »
Lithium Ion batteries, like you said, are much lighter. BUT they do not last as long as lead acid, and won't for some time. This is information Yuasa. Yuasa is a US company and makes batteries in USA. They are the LARGEST rec battery manufactury, they supply OEM batteries for Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki, KTM, Ducati, Triumph, BMW, etc.

What you are describing sounds like a different issue though. I would contact them about the issue. The Yuasa YT7B-BS is a lead acid battery from street bikes.
That's interesting concerning the Yuasa battery? On the side of the box the part #2113-0259 below that it has BPC EVO2-LiFeP04 Battery & on the price sticker next to Description:it has-Battery LI-ION 8 Cell.
The retail price is $159.95.I paid a even $140.00 for the battery. The local shop I bought the battery from told me I could return it if it did'nt workout.I'm leaning towards fords explanation or else my starter is broke... :-

Technical / Lithium Ion Batteries? Are They Really Better?
« on: February 21, 2012, 09:49:59 PM »
I just recently purchased a lithium ion battery for my '11' ktm-300 @ my local Yamaha/Suzuki shop for $140.00. It is a lot lighter than the stock lead battery however just the other day I put my battery tender on the new battery until it was fully charged & I pressed the e-start & the bike did not start!

The battery I purchased was in a box that had 'Ballistic Performance components'.The outside of the box said "made in U.S.A but when I opened the box a paper inside had 'Yuasa' & the battery type was YT7B-BS Evo2??? The only thing better about this battery is it is a lot lighter than the stocker but if it's going to leave me stuck up on some distant mountain top than I'll use the lead acid battery!

If anyone on this great website knows anything about this type of battery please give me a little info about it & if it's worth what I paid for it!? Also I read in dirt***** magazine that running the bike won't charge a lithium ion battery? I can't believe that because I rode just 2 days ago & I shut the ktm off on the ride to take a quick break & when I pressed the e-start the katoom fired right up!........... :-

General Two Stroke Talk / More information for the Maico followers
« on: December 16, 2011, 06:47:17 AM »
It would be interesting to hear directly from Herr Koestler about this situation.

I wonder why M.I. made the statement (and press releases) that they were the new owners of the Maico brand and that production had been transfered to the U.K. when, in fact, ownership of the trademark still resided in Holland with Brouwer?

Something just doesn't add up here. Why would Brouwer suddenly be concerned about his ownership of the trademark when Koestler had been cranking out Maicos for the last 11 years?

I was at the factory in 1982 and witnessed the dyno testing of the new 83 490 motor.
Thankyou very much for the info Charles! I wish MI would have told us alot sooner though!? I like Sachs also wonder why MI put a press release out stating that they were the new owners of the Maico brand and I also read on MI's site that for some reason they were NOT allowed to build their Maicos with the original red or red & yellow colored graphics? I don't recall why but I did read something about that on MI's site. I kind of thought MI was buying their Maicos off of Kostler from the beginning but was'nt 100% sure? The last time I looked on Kostlers website he still had Maicos for sale but they were just merely the same bikes from 2000 to 2001 with the BNG's...lol. Sad but true! I was glad to see MI's video of the new 380cc. bike considering that Kostler did'nt have any of the 380's on his website for sale. Back in 2005 I spoke to Herr Kostler over the phone & he basically told me in broken english that they stopped building the 380's due to engine problems and @ that time I was interested in a Maico-500 or 380 enduro bike but Herr basically told me if I was going to order one to get one without the lights & blinkers due to the extreme cost of shipping those to the U.S.?$!)<:...And then he basically told me to call back the next day when his brother would be there because he can understand english better. I never called back @ that time due to financial reasons but @ the time was just checking on the prices & shipping cost from Germany..... :o  :(   ???

Non-Moto / Stupid Or embarrassing things you have done on a bike
« on: November 15, 2011, 09:40:14 AM »
I would have to say the one really stupid thing I did when I was 11 or 12 yrs. old & had a "81" rm-80 & I decided I was going up on the mountain to take a ride & on my way up I had to go through a couple alley ways to get on the mountain & needless to say I had to by-pass the junior high school I attended but I was'nt worried @ all about that because it was Summer time & I was on break, however on my way up I ran into a female friend standing outside of the school so I stopped to say hi & asked her if she wanted to take a ride up on the mountain with me? Her answer was no but @ least she asked me to stop up her aunts house later that evening because she had to babysit her nephew.Of course I told her I'd be there & I guess due to me being extremely excited about spending time with this girl that I had a major crush on I stupidly had to show off & I said to her "do you dare me to ride down the hill & onto the baseball field?"
There was a little league baseball game in progress so she told me that I did'nt have the balls to do that! I told her wrong answer & started my rm-80 up & took of down the hill towards the ball field & I rode a wheelie to the in-field & proceeded to ride around the in-field doing donuts & shooting roost all over the place! Next thing I know a couple off adults trying to watch the game got up from the bleachers & took off in their cars & one of the coaches ran up towards me & yelled that the police are on their way & told me I would be arrested! So I took off and rode up a street heading to the mountain & as I got to the gravel rode that takes me up on the mountain a City Police officer was flying towards me in his car with the lights on & thankfully I had a old style Scotts face mask & a old open face helmet so I know they did'nt know who I was I just had to worry about the girl who did know me & hope they did'nt go interogate her! Lucky for me I got up the gravel rode to a gate that's still there to this day & I had enough room on the right side to go around it so I made it around the locked gate & rode as far as I could up the mountain & hid up there until dark & then snuck down off the Mt. & locked & covered my rm-80 in the garage & went in my house to get cleaned up so I could walk up to the girls aunts house but by the time I got there her aunt was already home & asked me what in the heck am I doing at her house & I said as calmly as I could that I was looking for a buddy of mines house & I must have got the wrong address! She did'nt hardly believe me but @ least I ended up going back home & was very thankful that the PoPo did'nt catch me! After that fiasco I stayed off of my bike for about 4 months & then finally sold it to a friend & about a year & a half later I got a Suzuki 230 quadsport 4-choke four-wheeler! It was a total dog of a four-wheeler so I did'nt keep it very long............... :o  ???  :-X
