Technical / Problems with my KTM mapping switch.
« on: July 07, 2011, 11:04:40 PM »
:( I just recently ordered a mapping switch for my 2011 KTM-300xc off of Jeff Slavens & I installed the switch as the directions said to & I even called Jeff Slavens to explain to me where the black/white & grey wires where on the bike as they were a bit hard for me to locate. After I found the 2 wires I plugged them in & tie strapped them along the other wires as directed & then I started my bike & when it finally started after 7 or 8 kicks, which is rare for my bike the bike ran idled like it was wide open! So then I shut it off & flipped the bar mounted mapping switch to the softer map setting & started it back up & it did the exact same thing! I was getting a little worried that the Bauer ignition map switch I bought was'nt made for the "11" 300xc or else I somehow installed it improperly! Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated because I'm really tempted to take to switch off & set my bike up the way it was!................... :-\

General Two Stroke Talk / Not To Be Tedious & Boring But....
« on: June 02, 2011, 09:57:53 PM »
Not to bore the good people on this site or to even hear the so called latest news but I have been wondering if Opferman or Sachs or for that matter anybody on TSM has heard anything lately on the "already should have been out!!!" Maicos' from Maico International??? I surely do not want to hear the plethora of info that I've already heard from MI but I would'nt mind hearing what's been going on with MI & thier F1 engineered bikes?! Are they pretty much a done deal or what? Is there any in the United States yet? Are they only being sold in Great Britain? Just would like to hear something new & NOT the same old spin we've been hearing since 2010!!!  >:(

General Two Stroke Talk / All Sold Out @ My Local Dealership!?
« on: April 25, 2011, 03:30:09 PM »
I just got off the phone line with my local KTM dealership inquiring about a 2011 KTM-300xc & his words were> All sold out! I then asked about a Husqvarna 300wr, He said he can get one of them in but then he said I have a GasGas 300wr & a GasGas 300xc w/e-start & he would let the e-start model go for $6849.00 out the door! Great deal I know but I finally got enough cash to spend it on what I really want & that's a "11" KTM-300xc & he could'nt tell me to much about the 2012's understandablely other than he'll get the 2012's in around September so I guess I'll have to wait or find a shop that still has a "11" katoom 300xc in! >:(

Open Forum / Any Early Predictions For Todays Race?
« on: April 16, 2011, 10:41:36 AM »
I'm posting this question @ approximately 1:40 est & although it is'nt a 2-stroke related question I just wanted to ask if anybody on TSM's site has any predictions of who they think will win todays race in Seattle? Both the "lites" class & the "450 main"? I think Reed will win the 450 main today but would like to hear anybody else's predictions??? :)

Hey guys I was just wondering why my posts have "Quote","Modify"and "Remove" above them and not above anybody else's?

I just found an old magazine article that I printed off of the net sometime around 2000 entitled "MAICO LIVES".I'm pretty sure it was out of Dirt Bike magazine but it was basically a test ride of the ATK-700 Intimidator & ironically Frank White the main man @ ATK was one of the two test riders.
Towards the end of the article entitled "What A Great Airplane Motor" the other test rider(not Frank) said "It was like nothing I had ever ridden. It's kind of hard to describe, but just imagine having all kinds of power without any RPM.The motor would pull hard but when you opened the throttle for a big hill it would'nt necessarily do anything different. It would just keep droning along at the same RPM regardless of throttle position, engine load, uphill or downhill. In order to accelerate you would just upshift.Downshifts were strictly optional.
"The 680 motor is actually kind of mild" said Frank. It's very easy to ride, but it does'nt rev much. The 500 has less torque but it revs. The 620 does both. It's a brute. That's the one to have if you want to go racing. The most impressive part about the ATK/Maico was how civil it was. There was very little vibration.not much engine noise, the clutch had an easy pull and the shifting was fine. The article goes on to say that Maico had all the stuff figured out in the"80's".Especially on the Open bikes.
After reading that old article again just the other night,I thought to myself, "Damn,it sounds to me like ATK's version of the Big Bore Maico's are a far cry from the new versions from Maico International and they even sound weak compared to the all German Maico's that were still being made at the same time that ATK's version of the Big Bore beasts were! All I can say is I hope when Maico International's Maico's get here in the U.S.A. that I can afford to buy one before I get to old and to sick to take a few 100 blasts on one..... :P

General Two Stroke Talk / Who Actually Owns The "MAICO"Name?
« on: July 27, 2010, 09:25:51 PM »
I know that Maico International is making some really "BAD A$$"as well as updated Maicos,However has anybody been to Axel Kostlers' site @ Maico-Bikeworld.de because it appears to me that Axel is still selling Maico motorcycles & on his site the bikes look like slightly older models but he has them listed as 2011's...?... ???

In the recent August 2010 issue of MXA Hondas development engineer was asked the question...Is there a future for two-strokes? and while I'm not going to post every answer he gave in MXA word for word I would like to post his 1st four answers to the said ?

 1) There is no future for two-strokes at Honda.
 2) Our policy is 100% four-stroke.
 3) It's a green issue.
 4) Honda strongly believes in this in every product it makes, from motorcycles to garden trimmers.

These are the answers that were given by Taichi Honda in the latest issue of MXA concerning the future of 2-strokes! Well at least the future of 2-strokes according to Honda.. >:(
It's reasons like these as well as some of Hondas past decisions concerning two-strokes that makes me have very little if any respect for that company...!

General Two Stroke Talk / A New Blue KTM-300 Two-Stroke???
« on: July 07, 2010, 10:15:17 PM »
I just noticed on TSM's site that the Husaberg brand is coming out with their own version of a 300 2-stroke with e-start!That's GREAT news for all of us smoker fans!I did however notice when reading the comments about the new Berg that a few of the readers stated that the new Husaberg is just a blue version of the KTM-300xc-w but others said no it's not because it has a 6 speed transmission. The truth is,at least according to my local KTM dealership is that the 2011 KTM-300's are also going to have 6 speed transmissions! Both the XC as well as the XC-W which makes me very happy to know that when I go to buy a new KTM-300xc it too will have a 6 speed gearbox!Nonetheless it's still awesome to know that we'll have another brand of 2-stroke out there to choose from..!!! :D :P :)

General Two Stroke Talk / Calling Out KTM & Yamaha!
« on: June 15, 2010, 09:03:24 PM »
I just wanted to ask the powers that be at KTM and/or Yamaha that since your the only two manufacturers left out there,at least the two of the "BIG FIVE" that still produce 2-stroke MX bikes in the United States,Why don't you have at least one 2-stroke motocross bike out there racing in the 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship? Now I've read that Yamaha has pulled their support from Fred Andrews Racing in the GNCC Series because FA Racing chose to run the YZ-250 2-stroke as opposed to the WR-250f because they said the 2-stroke is cheaper to race, less exspensive to maintain & easier to make competitive! That tells me that Yamaha,at least when it comes to offroad racing is more less saying for lack of a better term,"screw our YZ 2-stroke line up!"Now from my understanding as far as KTM goes they say that they are 100% committed to the 2-stroke and the last time I checked KTM has a good selection of 2-stroke Motocross bikes & I know they have a 2-stroke SX bike that they could use in the "lites class"or the "450 class" and I know that the KTM-250sx 2-stroke is'nt too far off in power compared to any modern stock 450 4-stroke and the powers that be at KTM seem like they want their new 350sx-f 4 stroke, which as we all know 100cc. smaller in the engine dept.So KTM why not put one of your highly talented MX racers on your "very fast"KTM-250sx for the rest of the season instead of just one race ie.Mike Sleeter @ Hangtown! I know for the right amount of $$$ you guys @ KTM can get a highly talented rider to not only race the 2-stroke for a season but WIN on the 2-stroke! So with that said KTM,what'a ya waitin' for?  ::) :P :o

« on: May 31, 2010, 06:16:37 PM »
On the main TSM page it was stated that Micheal Sleeter raced a KTM-250sxf at Hangtown.Sleeter raced a KTM-250sx 2-stroke,NOT a 250sxF!The SXF is a 4-choke!   ;)
