« on: July 25, 2012, 12:56:41 AM »
I was just on Ricks site... if he can do all the leg work, by all means go for it!  Just get your Maico...but,  be prepared for lots of questions when people see you with it. Good luck.
I'm going to check his site out after I eat dinner shortly.I did @ one time own a '81' Maico 490 mega 2 but I was only 14 years old @ that time & that beast scared my then very skinny 120Ibs. soaking wet arse BIG TIME!!! I wish I would have put that beast in storage but I stupidly sold it.... :(

no sweat... if you order direct, it should be easy shipping to Baltimore no problem. I would email and/or call direct to Herr Kostler. They ship all around... I had a lot of fun with it all, although it was weird wiring money internationally!!! I am holding out for MI on my next Maico... Do it, you will enjoy the notoriety :)

Sachs has a good lead however and that may prove to be "easier".

p.s. to Sachs and the Reiger... my '97/'98 250 had one and I preferred the WP on my '01... I don't know.... MM009, Sachs knows his stuff so go with the Reiger.
Yeah nom I have a WP on my Ktm-300 although it's the pds no linkage system that Ktm used until 2012 so I would love to know how well it works on the 2012/2013 KTM-300xc's? Just waiting on a MXA test to get some input.

Hey Maicoman, contact Rick Lago at MotoCentre in Yakima (www.motocentre.biz) and he'll sell you a 320 with no hassles. I've bought my Maicos off Rick and he takes care of everything. You just pay your money and pick up your expertly prepared Maico. ;D

P.S. If you decide to get a 320 make sure you get the Rieger shock.
Thanks Sachs and yeah I've always heard that the Reiger shock is the best for the Maico's. I would want the Maico I decide to buy to be a German built Maico and of course I would not mind @ all if Rick @ MotoCentre expertly prepared the bike! Thanks to you as well as nom de guerre for the info!  :)

Not sure if I should offer any input for the import info since you asked Sachs only... I imported mine from Kostler via Guus Mulders in Holland. Cost was reasonable at around $650 usd and partially absorbed in the unit cost. I had to make a couple of stops at brokers to pay nominal fees and get some sort of release before going to customs for the review and stamp of approval, then finally to the port of Newark. NJ to get my crate... I had to pay $35 to have them fork lift it down a ramp because my trailer was 't dock height... I am not sure where you are, but my cost was decent because I was east coast...  Took about 2 1/2 weeks from drop off in Rotterdam, Holland via ocean container to port Newark, NJ... INSPECT THE CRATE PRIOR TO LEAVING THE DOCK....
My apologies nom de guerre, I should have asked you also knowing that you're also a Maico fan like myself and thank you very much for the info.I live on the eastside of the U.S. myself in Maryland so NJ. would'nt be bad at all as far as the drive. Can one of Kostlers Maicos be ordered off of his website or would it be better to call Germany & speak to Axel himself? The last time I called his shop in Germany I got his brother on the phone & because of his broken English as well as my terrible German speaking he asked me to call back a few hrs. later when I was @ work & I really did'nt have the $ @ that time due to a recent marriage! LOL...however I'm no longer married so I'm a little bit better off financially speaking!!!........ ;D  :P   :D

Sachs if I wanted to buy a new Maico-320 or 500 off of Koestler in Germany how difficult as well as costly (as far as shipping) would it be? I do like the looks of MI's Maicos' but they're NOT in America yet & due to their legal battles over the name I would prefer one of the original German built Maicos...Any info you have would be greatly appreciated!!!..... ;D

If you don't take my word then how about MXA? "The greatest motocrosser of all time - the 1981 Maico MC 490". ;D
You would think @ least some of the Maico haters on here would agree with MXA?!!

General Two Stroke Talk / KTM Demo Day vs KTM 380SX
« on: July 10, 2012, 04:46:57 PM »
I think Donny Elmer (FMF) once said 400cc is the perfect size for a 2T.I have a 380 Maico and it is very, very nice.
Hey Sachs,Do you have any idea why I'm not seeing any of the 380 Maico's on Koestlers website or Maico Internationals site?? If I could afford another bike in the near future I would want a Maico 380 as opposed to a 320 or 500... 8)

Go easy on Ford,he is still part of the unwashed/uneducated masses but he will eventually come around. ;)
I hope so Sachs.I kind of doubt that Yamaha is suppose to bring a new 250 2t out in 2014 as Ford predicts though  :D

General Two Stroke Talk / motocross helmet??
« on: July 06, 2012, 04:57:08 PM »
I have a MSR helmet right now that's DOT & ECE approved but I'm going to be on the market for a new helmet soon because the helmet interferes with my Oakley crowbar goggles & the last ride I was on a few days ago I noticed that I lost the nose piece on my googles & I'm not to happy about that! I believe it was chump6784 that recomended a AGV helmet & they are top notch helmets with a fairly reasonable price! If you have lots & lots of extra money I personally would buy either a AIROH helmet or a UFO helmet. They're made in Italy so I'd find a dealer near your home & make sure you try whatever brand you buy on & put your pointer finger & middle finger together when the helmets on & see if you can push your 2 fingers in the side of the helmet & touch your ears.If you can touch your ears the helmets too big,if you can't touch your ears with your 2 fingers than you have the right size & it will protect you the best in a crash.... 8)

Technical / Will a Honda-250f or cr-450 HPDS Damper Work On a KTM?
« on: June 27, 2012, 01:22:01 PM »

Yeah,I know maicoman but I couldn't find the DB cover page online-I figured the internal trans ratios didn't make too much difference to the pic. ;)
As for the Maico's,maybe.Fool me once and so on.Hopefully it happens so the Maico faithful can come back out of hiding where they've been hanging their collective heads in shame. :D
Not I Ford...I was once a Maico diehard & still do like the older early 80's Maicos up to '83' but ever since the Brits took over I honestly have NOT seen them really update anything significant & all this chatter of F1 technology is hogwash imho! I'll keep my maicoman009 but truth is I am now a diehard KTM fan as well as a Husqvarna fan!

Has anyone seen this months Dirt Bike cover? :o It's also interesting to note that the 6 bike 450 shootout gets a small inset pic on the cover.I'm starting to notice a trend here  :<img src=" title="Roll Eyes" class="smiley">  8)

Ford the bike pic you got posted on here is'nt the KTM that was on the cover of the July 2012 issue of Dirt Bike, although that bike is a very nice KTM-300xc-w the bike on the cover was in fact a 2013 KTM-300xc & I really, really want one or two of them.... ;D  :P  :D..The only thing I don't like about the 2013 KTM-300xc is imo it should have black side number plates & a black gas tank.... ;)...On another note Ford I just seen one of the new Maico's on the MI website & the latest news on the almighty Maico front is the usual..."We're bringing our new Maicos out this year... ;D  :o  :D I have to assume this year will be 2013!!! What's your guess??? :-

Technical / Will a Honda-250f or cr-450 HPDS Damper Work On a KTM?
« on: June 17, 2012, 11:45:20 PM »
I just recently read an article in one of the dirtbike or dirtrider mags & cannot find that article to save my life! I just recall that the missing article said something about a Honda HPDS damper system would work fine on a KTM,Yamaha,Kawasaki or Suzuki?? If this is true I would'nt hesitate to buy one & install it on my KTM-300xc!
If anyone on here knows whether the HPDS damper would be able to be installed & work on my KTM please let me know? The price of the oem Honda dampers are reasonable & imo would be worth buying one for my KTM......... ;)

Quote
in the 80s and 90s you actually needed the new bike to be competitive.  that stopped in around 05-06
I agree with the first statement from a payout perspective, but the second statement makes no sense.
Are you saying that the bikes built in 05-06 were still competitive in let's say 08-09, but a 92-93 bike
was not competitive in 95-96?  And that the bikes built back in the 90s were not built as well as today's
bikes? :o

A racer would buy a new bike every season back then in order to qualify for the contingency money
the manufacturers paid out.  You were only eligible if you were racing a current year bike.  There were
no earth shattering changes from year to year in the 90s.  A 93 design could still win races at the
highest level of competition in 96 - just ask Jeremy McGrath.

From personal experince, my new race bikes are no more reliable, faster, durable or better constructed
than many bikes I raced in the 90s, and they are just as used up at the end of the season as my 90s
bikes, maybe more so with the Aluminum frames.

dogger
Tell em' dogger! I agree with ya 100% & I miss a lot of those 90's bikes as they all well mostly all of the brands had cromoly steel frames which imo are a much better material to make a dirt bike frame. The engines on the 90's 2-strokes where reliable & still can be with some work & updated parts! I also recall the 90's 4-strokes & although they were'nt as fast or powerful as the current crop of 4t's they were much more reliable & not like the time bomb 4-strokes are today!.... :o
