who else has a CR500 arm-stretching, sphincter-compressing, front-fender-obscuring-sky story?
I've put in quite a few laps on an Aluminum framed version of the CR500 lately. It doesn't make 80 hp,
more like 65, but it's a combination hoot and terror to ride
The first thing I discovered after a couple of trips over the berm and into the weeds, tires, or whatever
was waiting outside the track was I needed better brakes. The bike is deceptively fast. Mine doesn't
vibrate anymore than a 250 and the power is concentrated in the 4000 to 6000 rpm range so there
isn't much aural or visceral input as to your speed except those damn corners keep coming up faster
than you expect
I also learned very early on you better be riding the gas cap when you twist the throttle. The combination
of high horsepower, light weight and short wheelbase makes for a "sporty" ride, in fact, I spend most of
my time trying to keep the front wheel somewhere near the ground
If I ever get any GoPro footage, I'll have to turn the sound off because it would spoil the effect if all you
can hear is me screaming like a girl everytime I roll on the power.
I guess the best way to describe riding a stout CR500 engine in a bike that weighs the same as a CRF250;
It's a terrifying blast, and like any adrenaline junkie, I can't wait to do it again
