Clutch Cable Advice

A few weeks ago my clutch cable frayed, but i don't know why. i have a new one but i was wondering how I could prevent this one from fraying in the near future. thx for the advice.

How old was it? Keep the new one well lubricated, the smoother the cable moves the longer it will last.

Get a Magura hydraulic clutch kit.Once you've spent sometime with a hydraulic clutch you'll never go back to a cable.

my bud has a hydraulic clutch on his ktm 85. We both think it's pretty awesome. but it's more expensive than a cable.

The fray might have started with a small bend when it was installed the first time. Some cables come with a teflon bushing around the lead plumet which makes the fit very snug. Pack the lever hole with grease,take your time when you install it,make sure you have plenty of slack even if this means taking the other end off. If you avoid bending it and keep it lubed as coop says it should perform for years.

Use a good quality (OEM) cable. I've used the cheap ones a few times, and they never have the right feel, and don't last as long.

As others have said, Lube it monthly and it should last for years.

The fraying was caused by a kink/bend or lack of lube.
