How do I not look like an idiot while riding?
« on: August 01, 2013, 06:07:51 PM »
So...I'm not sure if this is just that old thing where you see yourself differently that everybody sees you, I'm pretty sure it's not and that I do look like an idiot most of the time while riding, and even not while riding! If anyone could give me some tips for riding position and technique that would be greatly appreciated :) Or well really anything! Excuse the broken plastic on my bike ;)
I just kinda look like a ham :/

In comparison to..this, it seems like this is what everybody else looks like..and I understand this is in a corner, but still.

Thanks!

Everyone's body is shaped different and some don't move how they used to.Supposedly, you should have your elbows up more but if you like high bars for standing up(like me),that's not going to happen. Not everyone is suited for what works for most.If it's comfortable,do it.Ever heard of Scott Summers? Elbows low and charging. 8)

I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

DV's doing it right.
That is how all the pro's ride.
I have copied his start technique at 1.12 and get all the hole shots now. ;)

I tried that at a hare scrambles. Didn't seem to work too well with a dead engine start.   :P ;D :D

I have this absolutely awesome magazine that taught me pretty much everything i know as far as riding technique goes. published back in the late 90s when motocross riders couldn't get away with riding lazy no matter what level they rode.

http://www.dirt-bike-tips-and-pics.com/dirt-bike-riding-tips.html

good site with good advice.

the best advice anyone can give you is to focus on TECHNIQUE, not speed. speed comes naturally AFTER you master the technique and never before.

You ride in the exact position my son does and he is 6'1. The pro I take lessons from would tell you ( cus he has beat it into my head ) Scoot forward, from the pegs up. When you do that you will straighten up more and the bike pushes you from the pegs rather than you hanging on  to it.

But honestly except that you are hunched a bit, and I am thinking since you are taller you do that to keep your weight forward. You really don't look like an idiot.

Hey well thanks guys! If this forum had :karma: or whatever I would've gave it to you all! I'll work on keeping myself more forward on the bike with my elbows more squared and hopefully I can improve!
