595,
You are going to like that bike. I have a 2009 125 SX (bought last summer new as a leftover). I've kept it stock. I ride MX, trails, enduros on it. For the enduro, I just put handguards on it, taped on the scorecard and rode. It  made every climb that day and scooted past many bigger bikes that had stalled on the faces of hills.

For a 125, it has a monster motor. I think the 09 puts out about 3-4hp more than the current 125SXs.

It's the same motor.  But in 2011, they added linkage which necessitated a curved airbox around the shock. also, at the same time, they changed their japanese ignition supplier to someone else, and it's not as good. (maybe from kokusan to someone else?)  the airbox and the ignition is the 3hp.

Yup, they lost tons of power on that airbox design. And btw, the two strokes actually got linkage in 2012, one year later than the four stonks. I know because I was desperately searching for a 2011 150 sx. The same frame as they 2012-13 models, but more power and lighter thanks to the lack of linkage.

Thanks for the info on the power change. On a 125, it seems absurd for KTM to go backwards on power but when your main competition is the stuck-in-time YZ 125 there isn't much pressure to get better. 3HP is a big deal on a small bike.

It sure is. Particularly when you're trying to run down bikes that make equal or better power over a much wider and easier to use spread.
