With my 07 all I did was add a fmf fatty pipe and muffler ,it made a really good boost over the whole rev range and the bike pulled really well and the best thing is its a pretty cheap good mod.I didn't really do a lot more the rm has a great user friendly manner I have also heard of some adding a 10 oz flywheel weight but personal preference on that and would depend on your riding .hope it helps

not sure about your power and speed comment...  I guess it depends on what you use the bike for. I ride mx mostly and some offroad desert/dune stuff.  I put a PC pipe and silencer on mine, with a MT reed assembly.  I agree with vetman that a flywheel weight helps with hook up on the slippery stuff.  I installed the lightest weight available and it is a simple bolt on mod.  Depending on your track 1 tooth on the rear is also a good bet....

How old is the top end, is the piston clearance in spec or was it not measured before installing the piston.
Jetting set up etc can make a big difference. Timing being retarded also gives a more mellow power curve.
