Insurance on your bike(s)
« on: April 16, 2013, 08:47:49 PM »
Who carries insurance on their bike(s), what company do you use?

I've always fully covered my cruiser, but I've never had insurance on my KTM. I think I'm going to add it just to have protection against theft.  Has any one used Rider Insurance Company, their costs seem very low.

Smart idea, wouldn't it to be to much. Friend of mine running insurance on his street legal DRZ is paying like $30 a month.  ;D

I have it for that very reason. Unfortunately, I also have to pay for liability, and the rest of the comprehensive package. They do not offer just theft. I use State farm, and pay $6/mo for the RM, and $10 for the Husky.

A couple of steaks and a baseball bat, and your bikes are gone. It happened to a friend of ours.

I do. My normal insurance is through State Farm and they require titles. So my Gas Gas and my wife's trail bike are insured through Markel (www.bike-line.com). $100/year for both bikes. I need insurance at the riding club I belong to so I have to have it.

Geico... also have used Foremost/RV Amercia.... $300 for 3 bikes, peace of mind, I still take precautions with transport and storage. But in the end, I don't care because they are covered. I learned the hard way 12 years ago, have never gone uninsured since.

I use Progressive. The odd thing is they won't cover my enclosed trailer, but if I put collision on my dirt bike it's covered. I still do not understand that, but I guess I can claim when I wreck my MX bike on an MX course? hahaha

Thanks for the posts.

I decided to go with Rider Insurance, https://riderpos.net/RIDER_IPOS/welcome.do  With full coverage on both my Yamaha Vstar cruiser and the KTM, I'm paying about 1/2 of what I paid last year (Foremost) just for the Vstar.  I was given the insurance company's name (Rider Insurance) by more than one dealer when I was shopping for a new bike.  I've not had insurance on the KTM in the past as I thought my homeowners insurance would cover theft...  not.  I've not had any issues in my neighborhood, but there is always a 1st.  I put full coverage on the KTM as I wanted to have theft coverage. Even if the bike is not worth a lot of $$$, its worth a lot to me.  At just under $12/month for both bikes its cheap insurance for my piece of mind.

Exactly. This is why I always have full coverage on bikes. I usually have more in my bikes than I can sell them for so recovering even blue book would be better than a full loss after a theft.
