Wear neck braces?and if so what kind do you wear? I just switched from a Leatt that i've been wearing for 5 years to the new Atlas brace.....Cant wait to try it out tommorrow but just trying it on at home it feels alot different than the Leatt.

I have no complaints about the Leatt and its done its job a few times for me also and i always said i would wear it till someone proved to me that it wasnt a good thing......Just let me say that i'm not bashing Leatt at all but this artical has some good points and has changed my mind about it,and this is only MY opinion as to what i think about the Leatt now but i felt it was time for a change for me so i researched the Atlas and decided to give it a try.

I used to wear an EVS Evo brace, but every time I crashed-even very lightly, I got a concussion. I now use an EVS RC3

I am considering the Atlas

i have tried the atlas, the leatt, the astars

i wear a leatt, not particularly because its the "brand" but because that's what i got for christmas a couple years back. my buddy just recently got the atlas, and i can say that it is drastically different and has a different feel than the leatt, the astars is kind of in the middle as far as feeling goes, between the leatt and the atlas.

the astars and atlas feel lighter and feel lower profile than the leatt.

i've been happy with my leatt, its weird when i first got it i thought it was a mistake because it felt awkward, but now i wont ride without it. It's "cheap" insurance as far as i'm concerned. They're not for everybody, they may not protect from certain things, but i'd rather have it than not.

If somebody was looking to buy one, i'd ask to borrow one from somebody and testing it out a couple times (not just a lap or so, but for a couple weekends worth of riding) to really get the feel of it. Like i said they're not for everybody but i would urge people just to try it

I run the EVS R4  no complains on it, can hardly tell its there, this is the first neck brace ive worn, my only question is it feels like it lifts up fairly easily, I'd of thought it'd be more secure than to have rubber straps to hld it down

Simple answer is no. No matter what anybody says the only way any neck brace works is transferring energy. The question is where do you want to take all that energy. My problem with the braces is your body is naturally designed to bend and flex and spread out the force and the brace absorbs all that energy and transfers it to one point. In my personal experience with them is seen them cause more harm than good. That being said my credentials. In this are pretty basic, mid to front of pack b class race and local emt with nursing experience. For the most part I do understand what it is I'm looking at but have no hard evidence to back up my claim. Only thing I can say is if Eli Tomac was wearing a neck brace when he went head first a couple weeks ago people would claim the brace saved his life but he wasn't and he still survived.

Yes, I started off with the EVS something or another, graduated to the Alpinestar Bionic, and I am now wearing the Leatt Troy Lee Designs support. I like the Leatt the best, so far.
