Got a deer!
« on: December 18, 2012, 10:20:10 PM »
Only problem was my mom hit it with her car. Any good meet would have had to been soaked up with a sponge, and the rack was broken  :( Anyways, her car is a Ford freestyle that they discontinued making a while back. OEM parts are no longer available and are very rare used, so I can't find any. So, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the following sites: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com
http://www.partsgeek.com
http://www.carparts.com

These sites have OEM compatible parts for the car and the collision center I sent it to has appraised it's fixing to be around 8k, which is absurd, so either I will be doing it or a friend of mine will. Anyways, the parts I need are the hood, radiator, headlight, bumper, grille, and fender. I'm just wondering if these sites are reputable and reliable? Any feedback out there? Thanks in advance.

I've had auto parts shipped to me without any problems. The key thing is to do your research and make absolutely sure you are ordering the correct parts. I once ended up with a SOHC Isuzu 3.2 V6 engine when I should have had a DOHC 3.2 V6, and they won't interchange - my mistake. ><img src=" title="Angry" class="smiley">

I'd also check Craigslist ads over a wide area near your area. I once picked up a 4.6 for my Ford pick up out of Tacoma, Wa.. The motor had blown a head gasket and I picked up the low mileage motor for less than the cost of a top end gasket set. The cost of the motor + gas, food, motel room etc. was half what the local auto wreckers wanted and this motor had less miles.

Yeah there are no freestyle part outs in my area mainly because they weren't really popular unfortunately. But the collision center ordered the part list I gave them from the websites and cut the bill back about 1k  :<img src=" title="Roll Eyes" class="smiley"> Still going to be 7k for fixes, but they are estimating 55 hours to work on it! I can do it in 2, 3 tops... Which is what I may end up doing, still not sure yet. Thanks Sachs  :)

Sorry but I only just now clicked on it.However, what sachs said.Napa and Carquest both sell body panels(chinese I think) for a reasonable price. Many areas have places that make up body panels as well-ck your yellow pages.
Check salvage yards as you may find one that's been hit in a different place than yours and could be had cheaply if you buy the whole thing minus engine/trans.Put an add on craigslist, kijiji or whatever under auto "looking for"You never know who has one with a blown engine sitting in their backyard.
Good luck.

Btw,I was behind an Aerostar one time that smoked a deer one night.Hard to believe me and a buddy fit it into my Tercel 4wd wagon-then took it over to his place to dress out.
Just try explaining to your wife where the blood you never noticed on the backseat came from. :(

I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

Ok, I can do that. I'll put up an add now. Hopefully someone bites, because 7k is totaled for that car being worth only 7k in the blue book.
