Yea i am still stoked every time i ride it. Im 38 yrs old and still fast as hell on it. Im always kickin 4 strokes in the azz at the track.

In 07  I raced the 250 am. B class at Budds Creek Pro Nationals and was one of two oil burners and pulled a huge whole shot. Yea i must admit I was a lil surprised. Only a few turns later my piston desintigrated thankfully before the first table top. I sold my surf board and a few other things to make it to that one. I went into depression and it sat up for three years with the Budds mud still on it. I figured it was completly destroyed.
A friend sold me an 06 crf 450 that was three years old and still had the stock tires and sprockets on it ..yea hardly any hours on it. I rode that till i got used to it then got bored and started missing the smell and scream of the old cr. So i tore down the ol'96er and it wasn't that bad at all.  A piece of the piston got wedged between the flywheel and case. Got lucky and it wedged at one of the spots where the case bolts hold it together. All i needed was top end... but i had been running the same stock cylider since 96.Yea those 2 strokes are tough as nails. So i freshened it all back to new.
As soon as i fired it up for the first time in years i knew it was time to sell the crf.
I still havent raced again but plan to soon and a year from this weekend I plan to go back to Budds and redeem myself!

So now that i have your attention or you have fallen asleep...heres where this is all going.
I want to buy new model forks off ebay or somewhere like for the ol'96er.
Do u know what year model forks and triple clamps would fit my bike???? and if the shock could be used also.
I wish I would have tried the set up off the 06 crf i had but wasnt thinking about it before i sold it.
I have heard of people doing this with forks but hate to buy the set up not knowing if it will work.

First off: welcome to the jungle :P

Secondly, nice work getting rid of the fooper. Nothing is just as.... awesome as a two stroke motorcrosser at full noise. As for the forks, I might be able to help you out there. I'm not sure if they'll fit or not, probably not. But I've got some 2005 CRF250R showas in my garage at the moment. When the turd was running, those forks were absolutely AWESOME. I really wanted to put them on my YZ but alas, failed. So I'm wrecking this fooper anyway and the forks are still here. If they're gonna fit, give me a PM sometime. Having said that you ARE in the states so postage would probably be steep. Let me know

As usual scotty raises a good point. from what I've heard even 700 or so bucks spent at pro circuit will improve your ride 10 fold. Thats what I've heard anyway. The forks I've got in the shed are sweet to ride on though and they got checked out by the dealer before I started wrecking it. the seals are fine too. I doubt they'd fit though.

Definitely consider having your current ones worked on though

Good point. Depends on budget really. Could get yours worked on at a cheaper level. You could buy some showas off a newer model bike. OR go the whole hog and get the Ohlins. I've heard they're amazing. There was a guy on here that did infact put Ohlins on his CR. cryzrider    his name was. He said he'd had them on everything since his 97 CR too.

thx guys for the replies....still not sure what im gonna do.
I had them totally rebuilt about 7 years ago with race tech goodies.
Definitly made a difference but im thinking that if i get newer model ones and build them they would be even nicer.
I guess ill need to juggle the cost on that vs. ohlins. Man ohlins would be nice...the seed has been planted. Hmmm

I'd say the CR 500 is the same as your 250. I can't speak for the TRX though.

I reckon you would be ok, triple clamps an all ya shouldnt have too much drama, rear shock if its from a 500 close to your year.
Maybe you should measure the length of the shock just to make sure, only thing with the front would be the length of the head stem, bearing diamters and where the stops are

You can press your head stem out and press it on a diff clamp, the bearing and the thickness of the thripple clamps have to be perfect tho. For the shock I would just buy a Ohlins. I have a 04 and 06 cr125, one of the shocks is nearly 2 inches longer. The 05-07 cr250 forks are the best cr250 forks, in 04 the cr,s forks got the inner honed treatment, good stuff.
