Does Honda have a problem?
« on: June 13, 2012, 03:54:02 PM »
I'm out of the full time bike repair game so it makes me curious - does Honda have a problem with their f and X cylinder heads?During my web rambles I seem to be encountering more and more bits of information about valve troubles concerning Honda dirt bikes and was wondering if there is any validity to these rumours? :<img src=" title="Roll Eyes" class="smiley">

not sure, but i know my buddies 250f and 450's both have had major problems pretty much every 6 months

my friend is on his 4th complete engine rebuild on his 250f it's an 07, and his honda 450 is on its second rebuild 06
my other friend has been having issues with timing, his cam chain keeps skipping teeth on the cam sprocket, and he pays somebody to put a new cam chain/tensioner in it once every couple months at 2-300 a pop as well as a valve adjustment every 10-15 hours for 1-200 a pop

i've seen more honda's stop running than any other bike on the track, i personally think its the single cam design, it just puts too much stress on the valve train for them to have that "honda reliability"

A buddy of mine had an 02 R and currently has an 09 X.The valves tightened up on the R eventually such that they needed to be replaced and the seats redone-but it had about 5 yrs and many hard miles by then.So far no issues with the X.I haven't heard they have any more issues than anything else-from the people around here that own them anyway.

I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

I know 2 guys with 08 X's that have both split the right hand case around the kick starter.
Problem is caused by kick starting the bike because the battery is flat. :o
Obviously a weak spot.

If you don't fall off you are not going hard enough
