Throttle cable wont shut all the way
« on: June 01, 2012, 07:49:19 PM »
I took my carburetor off to stop gas from leaking from a vent hose, that's fixed. I put it back together, started the bike up and it got stuck at 1/4 throttle. I took it apart again and adjusted every thing to the loosest possible setting. It still wont reach a seated position. A part of the cable melted, so I assumed that's what was causing it to get caught up before it seated, but I cut part of the rubber away and it is freely moving. I don't what to do, I probably going to buy a new throttle cable, unless anyone else has a way of fixing this?  ???

Make sure the end of the cable outer is properly seated in the top of the carb and make sure the end of the cable is properly located in the slide.

Yeah it all is. With every single adjustment point loosened all the way it barely seats itself, so I just bought another one. It isn't worth getting the throttle stuck at the track.

If it is a round slide, are you sure you put it in correctly? I can't remember what type of slide is in those Yamaha's.

Yeah its a round slide, I put it in right because I disconnected the cable and it slid all the way down like normal.

Save yourself the anguish... if there is any doubt get a new cable.  the last thing you need it to have the cable stick while WFO...  it's not fun...   :o  don't ask me how I know.

I did order it already  ;D But it did get stuck at about 1/4 throttle, but it would move and not go any lower. And I have experience with something being stuck WOT... It was a banshee though. I had the key out of the ignition, all the stop switches off, and it was still going WOT. I choked it out, but it was scary when the motor didn't shut off after I had the key out, as you could imagine hahaha  :P
