FMF vs. Pro Circuit (2 stroke pipes)
« on: May 04, 2012, 08:39:28 AM »
Hey guys.

First off im not sure if this was the right section to post the topic and I apologize if its not, I was torn between General and Technical but its not really motocross/supercross related. Please do move it though if I'm wrong and again, sorry.

The dilema I'm having is Pro circuit against FMF for my beloved weapon, 2001 YZ 250. Or Yazza as I have come to call it... Moving on my main question here is, Which is better? I'm sure this is gonna be pretty controversial but this is good. So hit me with your opinions and i'll make my decision. Oh by the way, I'm aiming for more bottom-mid. So its the Gnarly against whatever pro circuits equvilent is. Feel free to suggest other brands aswell. Already have a Power Core II silencer for it.

Another not totally unrelated question is, Why exactly do two strokes have expansion chambers? Thanks guys, scream it out

If you want bottom end go the Gnarly.

How they work.

i've always been a fan of both and have owned both . I noticed a large low to mid improvement over stock on my 98 kx250 going with an fmf knarly pipe .  My 03 rm125 has a pc works pipe and that seems to have pretty decent low end for a bike thats not supposed to have any .  A lot of the guys on 2 strokes at the hs/ftr races use the knarly .

I was just about to post the same question when I came across yours. I'm stating to believe that they really are both good. It's more of a personal preference I guess. I was torn between both.after looking and digging I think I will stay with FMF. I also think the stock pipe does just fine, but I feel, always the need to upgrade. (Plus a new shiny pipe? Hell yes please!) there just to many opinions to sort through, and it's always seems to be 50/50 with most products mentioned. I may even be going with FMF because they been around quite a while now, and they have in awesome logo. last part there was a lil childish, but I don't care.

And I like how FMF is the abbreviation for Flying Machine Factory

FMF or Pro Circuit, just pick your preference. Quality and performance are going to be pretty similar.

The only one or the other advice I have is get FMF simply because they care about 2-strokes more. Donny Emler loves 2-strokes. They run 2-stroke ads a lot. They came out with the Q-Stealth like 10 years after the 4-stroke takeover when others don't even make 2-stroke pipes. And they built that sick 199lb KTM 300SX.

Bottom line, the product/performance is very similar but FMF supports 2-strokes more.

I've got the gnarly on mine-more bottom to mid.You can get the pro circuit in the heavier gauge(I forget what they call it)but it's more of a top end pipe. Both are excellent pipes though.Something else to consider is that top end pipe can be smoother and easier to ride off the bottom to mid.

I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

From our experience at the tracks, and with Jeremy abusing his YZ. Go with an FMF. We ran PC pipes and he went through 3 of them in 2 months. All 3 cracked on the back side by the PV cover. PC uses a thinner guage than FMF. We switched him to a Gnarly and its been on for over a year.

Thats all the persuasion I need. I can't afford to whack new pipes on that often. Cheers Charles, I was hoping you'd reply.

Thanks mate
