Hey guys, seems like ages since ive posted anything but i need help, have a chance to pick up a 93 kx 250 for basically free with some extra parts, my question for you guys is, whats the power like? Good idea bad idea? And lastly any particular quirks with this year? I know nothing about kawasakis, thanks

I don't know much about kawi's, but its a 250 2T, it has to have some power to it  ;D

 the 93 was a good year from my knowledge . the only known areas of concern would be the tranny . I had a 91 kx250 back in the day and it was fast , had good usable power but it liked killing 4th gear for some reason  . If its free I'd snag it up quik.

I had a '94 KX125 that fell apart more than I could believe.  At no point before or since have I had a bike that went through at least one foot peg spring every ride.  It's like Kawi designed the thing to fall apart every other race.  I hope the 250s were better quality.

Kawi didn't make a good 250 until 97.  If you are going to ride trails or in your back yard, go for it.  But if you are going to do anything remotely serious on it, skip it and go spend a grand on a mid 00s YZ that needs a top end or something.

Its a good wood bike, lots of power down low, not much to speak of up top

Be prepared to replace/repair a lot of parts.Those old Kaws weren't the best built machines.

there is a gray area in the late 80s early 90s where it isn't old enough for vintage class racing, but it isn't new enough to be worth a shit.  i think super vintage is conventional forks and drum rears.

Just because a bike isnt up to date dosent mean it isnt worth a shit . My 88 kx250 was one of the most reliable bikes I ever rode and had no problem running with 00+ machines in the woods or at hard rock . Its all in rider ability as to what you can do with an older bike .  They may be a little harder to ride consistantly than modern bikes but if you want the easy way out buy a 4stroke  >:-D
 

Keeping the older bikes alive  seems pretty important to me as far as keeping 2 strokes alive in general .

This bike cost me almost nothing other than fresh tires and air filter,a few adjustments and she was a beast . I had a guy out at tanglewood try to take off and leave me down a 2 mile long whoop trail  on a yzf426 and I stayed right next to him the entire way . This bike cleared the water tower jump at hardrock more than a couple times also . I still miss it wish I would kept it as a 2nd bike

Nice bike, I like that year. looks like a 500 minus the big jug, infact i think they share body parts. I'm a kawi man myself, seems people around here like the orange ones..

and like i said, if you are going to trail ride it, then it's a good bike.

Nice bike. I completely agree, I think people over look bikes that aren't recent. They still pull with the modern bikes and have that old school tank-like structure. Like an old phone, reliable, but it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the latest and greatest. And to some people that's just fine. Not to mention, give it ten years and even the 2012 yz250's will be "out dated"

The '93 KX250 was a very potent woods weapon. SE&TRA was dominated by them if I remember correctly. I seem to remember a "sea of Green" at every race and only rarely was another brand even on the podium. I was often very alone on my Husky.

Had my dealer not sold the business that year, I probably would have bought one (well, the 125 anyway).
