The 125SX of Doom

Starting a build thread here.  Bike was/is an extremely clapped, neglected 2004 KTM125SX That I intend to bring back to life, and then some.

It literally sat outside in the elements with the jug off the motor.

It will get a complete engine rebuild, by me.  The frame is getting powdercoated clear/raw.  It is staying a true 125cc.  US Chrome will be doing the cylinder replating as the nikasil is worn off the front of the cylinder.

I'll get some photos up soon.  Half the bike is in the back of my Element in pieces.  The other half is on the floor.  The forks are at Charles' house.

I can honestly say there was not one single positive point about this bike. Both levers are broken. Both tires are bald.  Both sprockets are sawbladed. both fork seals are blown.  all the plastic is dry rotted. The seat is torn. I think the bars are even bent. The airbox cover is missing.  The carb is filthy.  The airfilter is trash.  Both rotors are rusted.  Everything is going to be replaced.  There is a new 520 Oring chain in a box, but there is no masterlink, so I suppose a 50 dollar chain is the only positive thing I have.

Why did I even bother?  Because it was $200 dollars and 45 minutes from my house and it's a KTM.  It's an 04 which means I get the cool backfender/number plate combo and it has the non-progressive PDS shock and good WP forks.

When I picked the bike up, the guy's son who is about 17 years old says "Yewwer gunna rayyce vet awn uh wun twinny fiiiiiiiiiiive??"

And that quote my friends shall be my motivation.

Apparently "Daryl the powdercoater" says he has a raw chromoly color that would look better than just putting clear over the chromoly.  So we, the proverbial we, may go with that.  Droppin it off at lunch time, with pics of frame, and maybe of Daryl the Powdercoater, if he isn't looking.

Is that "Daryl the Powdercoater" in Stafford, by chance? I'm looking for someone to do a frame. I'm in Warrenton.

Keep us posted and I don't know if youv already got any colour scheme ideas but blue and silver looks amazing on those old 04 KTMs and a doma pipe is great for topend.
Great bike to do it all to, it will definitely be worth it.

Good luck and I hope to see pics when she's finished.

Yeah Premix, we're definitely needin some photos! Congrats, is there any better rebuild than a completely dead bike. It's called "work therapy."

Is that "Darly the Powdercoater" in Stafford, by chance? I'm looking for someone to do a frame. I'm in Warrenton.

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT go to Daryl in Stafford off exit 133.

Go to ACS.  his name is Nolan.  His cell number is 703-851-5548.  He is behind the old auto auction at the intersection of Rte. 1 and 208 (courthouse rd)

If your frame is already powdered which I am sure it is, leave it alone, he can powder over it and its much cheaper.

Since I am building a semi-works bike to dominate the known universe on, I am having him completely blast it and go clear with it.

I'll have before/after photos this evening.

as far as the color scheme, i dont know.  I would like to do a redbull deal but those are hard to find.  I also thought about buying the white kit for it, and doing a 1986 KTM Danny Magoo Chandler deal.  I'll end up finding whatever graphics I can for it, then just going from there.

I think you should go with Factory GP team look from Tyla Rattrays bike. That is the one of the coolest 125 ever.

I had a 2002 125SXS with a Doma pipe and that thing was an absolute screamer....

Anyone have one of the KTM optional front fender braces laying around?  I want to have one re-made in dimple died aluminum for that works look.

Ye they look pretty badass too, I forgot about those. Though there are quite popular here so you might see a few other bikes that look the sam as yours. Not sure if that's a problem to you or not though but when I built my RM I wanted it to be the only one that looked that way. Sad I know.

I've never seen a Jager KTM here.

Jagermeister.  Deer blood and opium  PERFECT for a wide open 125 going against 450s.

OK. I am starting to get fired up here. I had an 03 125sx and it was the fastest 125 I ever owned. I am also a vet and have had the "look" when I say I am racing it in vet or while pulling up on the line beside a row of 450's. I am finishing up my 03YZ right now. It's gonna be a fun year.

..."Yewwer gunna rayyce vet awn uh wun twinny fiiiiiiiiiiive??"

Most fun you can have on a dirtsikkle.

2 strokes...
because 2 extra strokes and 35 extra pounds won't make you corner better.

This is so ghetto, and I am almost embarrassed to ask it, but is there a plastic paint that looks good enough to use?  I.E. black?
