Will you race when your 55or 60 yrs old, these guys are
« on: October 14, 2011, 10:58:35 AM »
In the RacerX vet series in the midwest www.mxvets.com  there is a outlaw class  35plus 125cc also, Aztalan 1st had it 3 years ago 38 riders signed up. Red bud had the class this year,it might be added as a points class next year. The 18a and b added last year, 50 and 55 plus had 33 and 36 riders at redbud,35a 44,45a 39,45 b 46, 40b had 74 riders that would be fun. A bunch of fast guys raced the series over the years, Ryan Hughs this year on a  yz450,in 25a in IL. he finished 5th so there is alot of fast guys from all over the country and Canada. The weather has been terrible the last 2 years, keeping the numbers down.

Oldmxer - my birthday is the same day but 8 years after yours, just turned 45.  I'm sure I'll still be riding into my 50's and hopefully 60's, but I doubt still racing.  My knee is so screwed up with arthritis that I will need a total knee replacement in 5 years, 10 max.  Not too good to race on a plastic & metal knee that is held to your bones with screws.....

I'm 50, with an ACL reconstruction that's 25 years old, arthritis and a pending knee replacement too. Doc says put it off as long as possible, but the funny thing is, since I started racing (didn't ride for most of those 25 years), the knee bothers me less. I think the 125 is good therapy, and the 2 smoke must be good lube for my joints   ;D

My dad was racing cars at 65, and I expect to still be on the bikes. I'm getting more into the vintage stuff lately. May as well play with kids (and bikes) my own age.

Turned 48 this year, been racing since 1977. I'll keep doing it as long as it's fun...
It's more fun than ever now.
I had a pretty good crash on September 11th this year, rung my bell, sprained my wrist and bruised a couple of ribs. Got up and finished the race, about 30 more miles of a hare and hound. loaded the bike in the truck wrapped my wrist, drank a couple of beers...
I asked myself, Is this still fun? Yeah it beats the hell outa sitting on the couch.

I have raced in 5 decades.

Every single race I have been on a two stroke.

I have also owned a 125, 250 and open class bike from Honda and Yamaha.

I don't know why that seemed relevant. I guess that makes me old. I know lots of other guys my age that gave up a long time ago. I guess that makes them older :D

I race in the International Old Timers Assocation. We have 14 chapters in the western states and Canada. Every chapter has an International race each year. This weekend is the SoCal Old Timers International at Glen Helen (10/15-16/11). The international races are two day events, Three motos on Saturday and two motos on sunday. There are classes for +40, +50, +60, +70 and +80 riders. There are skill levels from novice to master in each age groupe. Next weekend is the Carlsbad chapters race at Barona Oaks in the San Diego area (10/22-23/11).

Here is a link to the International Oldtimer Motocross website.

If you are over 40 and live on the west side of the country you should look into our races.

A friend of mine won the over 60 class at the Baja 1000 (500?) class a few years ago.He beat all the guys 50+ and would have placed in the top 10 of the over 40's. ;D

One of our club members has to be almost 80, still races in the super vet class, and he's not slow, either. He stands on his pegs about 99% of the time. Another member that posts here, Helmut Clasen is a local legend, and must be in his 70's. He still competes.

Glennc 5 decades of racing, that,s awesome. What bike do you race now ? Larry63r  thanks for posting the westcoast info, I,ve heard about your races. Racing at 60 is cool, but 70 and 80 must really be something. In november I turn 45, still living like cartune character, haha. Next monday starting a new driving job, bigger and better truck and a much better pulling and smoother trailer, than railroad junk. My body was going to hell everywhere, had to make the change if I ever wanted to ride again or do anything.I,m excited to turn 45, that means a new age class, friday night supercross, should win there easily. The racer x vet series I would do just for fun, race 2 classes 45 b, alot of cherry pickers, the 35 plus 125 class would be alot of fun. If you get a top 10 you get prizes,at the racer x series at each race. If I find out you can get a case of oil and other stuff, I might short out and go for the win. My phrase even when there,s no one at the track riding is, I,m the fastest 04 cr125 rider in the world SO GET READY.  ;D Or I,m slower than your little sister, you see to it she don,t knock me down again today. haha

46 and still going strong after 42 years. My father was a dirt biker and race car mechanic so I've been around it all my life. I don't know any other. My (almost) 2 year old son made motorcycle sounds ("vroom vroom" and "BRAAAAP BRAAAP") before he said Momma or Poppa and is infatuated with bikes. He already has a Husqvarna 50.

I race Vintage machinery directly against the kids on modern bikes. For local races I run true Vintage and for Regional events I run Evo since the competition is so much greater in the regionals and the jumps are so much bigger.

I raced my '72 Husqvarna 250CR this past weekend. Throttle stuck (frayed cable) so I pulled off to fix it,  When I pulled back on the track, I was right behind the leaders and stayed on their tail for two laps until the cable stuck again so I backed off and nursed it home in last place (finisher).
