Two stroke 2012 supercross
« on: October 13, 2011, 03:35:47 PM »
Hi my name is Joey Rossi,

I ran the lites class in the 2011 Outdoors Nationals, I had a pretty good season as a privateer. My four stroke blew up four times, at Southwick and Lakewood I was running in the mid teens, three laps to go it grenaded. Thousands of dollars each time. As a privateer this was devastating. Its very difficult to compete against guys who have 17,000 cranks alone, and numerous motors to exchange. I think the experience that I have gathered through this 2011 season has led me to the conclusion that the teams and privateers that continue to run a four stroke, in this economy, are not sustainable with the high cost. I have made a choice to run a KTM 250 two stroke in the Supercross class, and will continue into the outdoors on it. My reasons for doing so are:

1: The bike is 30 pounds lighter than a 450.
2: The bike is 2,500 dollars less off the MSRP than a 450.
3: The bike is nimble and flick able.
4: The top end only costs me 100 dollars, and my dad can do it.
5: Probably the most important, its soooo much fun to ride!

Your question may be, "Can I be competitive on it?", and the answer is a big, "Yes". I raced an 09 KTM 250sx in the A class's, through the regionals , specifically the Mill Creek south east regional, and Lorettas. Here is the link to the result: http://www.racer-results.net/results/mxsports/2009/AreaRegional/results.asp?t=2&e=56&c=1. Also at Lorettas, both 250A and 250 Pro Sport, top tens. I am hoping by me doing well in the Supercross class, that other teams and privateers will begin to wake up and run this wonderful bike before its to late.

If you would like to be a part in bringing back the excitement of the two stroke sound, the competitiveness of the bike, and affordable racing, any and all contributions would be greatly appreciated. I have set up a pay pal account. Any large contributions can certainly put you on my website and graphics. That is a promise.

Said it before, if someone wants to race a 2T in the pros we should all support them.  Team Faith Racing paid for a whole AX season on dollars from their fans.  So if you are actually gonna do this give me your pay-pal info.  I too am a broke college student but I will chip in a bit,  if every one on here chips in a couple buck maybe we can help you run the season.

I am going to try and hit all of them. I have a friend who is driving to all of them so I could probably hitch a ride, can't wait to mix that pre-mix again! I am going to have that bike running like a raped ape, don't think I can run C-12 because of the lead though.

Sorry you had to go through that, with all the bad luck. That must have been a rotten feeling blowing up, when you had a great race going. I  know a 16th at a national is a great finish. I don,t see how privateers make it now, fuel, oil, tires, etc everything is expensive. I had friends that raced  nationals in the mid to late 90,s. It didn,t cost hardly anything, one pal raced a 98 RM 125 totally stock engine, I think he went 23-26, 2nd moto he had a stuck ring. He made a living racing  fri. night Lake Geneva, then Byron IL. sunday, 2,800 or more a week. Racing at the highest level is like running a buisness, if your 4-st won,t let you finish the job, get a bike that will finish. It,s a big gamble running a buisness, take a trucker his engine roaches that,s 28k plus, most are done right there. And a true indendent o/o can gross over 225 k in a year, with a net of 60k. That,s how expensive everything is. I wish you the best Luck Joey, I have a pal that worked for the KTM race team, next time I see him I,ll  see if  some factory parts are available for ya.

This is great news.
I wish you best of luck, and I think you'll have lots of support and fans!
It would be shocking to see a cost-comparison compared to running a 4 stroke a full year.
I hope other riders will follow too!

I remember this guy, he was riding and training in in my neck of the woods  (Louisiana) when he was training for lorettas. This guy can strait up haul on a 2 stroke. I remember a race at Gravity Alley MX in Breaux Bridge, LA he let all of the local pros and B riders start a good ways  ahead of him then took off passed them all and beat them all by like 10 seconds.
