Been to that event quite a few times. Never happened before AFAIK, what a horrific tragedy. Prayers to all those involved and their families. So sad.
Yamaha CT3, RT3, MX125, SC500, Toy Prius, Diesel F250 (it all balances out)

It was bad, multiple fatalities and injuries, could be the end of the air races. We've lost quite a few pilots over the years but when you add spectators to the equation it changes everything

So far 3 dead including the pilot, and numerous injuries. It looks like it was not pilot error but mechanical failure.  :'(

Sad news.  :(

Is more bad stuff happening these days or do we just hear about it more because of the media, social networks, internet, etc?

it's because of the media and the internet, within 30 minutes of the accident it was on youtube

The 2 died at the hospital, no report yet on fatalities at the scene but from what I saw and heard it will go higher. It definitely wasn't pilot error, so far it appears like he lost the elevator trim tab.

A bad deal for sure but I'd hate to see it shut down.Sometimes you just take chances-as a participant or a spectator.I've seen two plane crashes right in front of me.One was a snowbird and the other a ww2 plane that couldn't pull out of a stall.Freaky stuff-especially when you can see the pilot struggling for control in his last seconds. :(
I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

Here's a good perspective of the final moment.

Final Flight of the Ghost

There's a good discussion with pics vids and first person accounts from one of the members.

I hadn't seen that video yet. Talk about reliving the moment, that gave me chills. They still have the impact area closed off and are still actively investigating and cleaning things. Rumor has it that the telemetry from the plane showed that it pulled over 20 g's, you can see the tail wheel extend in the slow motion.
