« on: September 08, 2011, 08:30:46 AM »
Hi to all!I just register to TSM and iam excited!
My name is Apostolis but you can call me Aps and iam from greece!
I owned a first hand Kawasaki KX 125cc 2006!The last of the Moikans! :D
Now the bike is off!Last time damage the piston and the cylinder too!
So its time to rebuilt the engine and after this reason i am thinking to refresh and bikes view!
My biggest question is about the engine!I dont know if its better to modify the engine with the stock parts 125cc or
with the Athena cylinder kit 144cc!Does anyone knows someone which he try the 144 kit!

Stock is always good.Welcome aboard :)
I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

mxforever it's always good to have the extra power over the next guy especially if your racing heavily you can use it but once you start over boring you also will start loseing the reliability of the engine. Unless your racing and have the extra cash to rebuild the engine more often I would keep it stock. You can always add bolt on go fast goodies like a v-force reed valve or a boyesen rad valve or even a pro-circuit or fmf exhaust those all will give you more power.

Thanks for your good words guys!
Iam very confused about what i have to choose between stock or bigbore displacement!
Actually the cost to rebuilt the engine is the same, maybe the stock OEM cylinder is more expensive than the cylinder kit of Athena!
The price here in Greece is about 450 euros only for the cylinder and i want 550 euros for the complete cylinder kit of Athena! The prices is wholesale prices! Also i was thinking to change the stock connection rod with a stronger wiseko or prox!
As for the past i have change 2 cylinders all ready the OEM!Last time i change the cylinder and after 5 hours of work the engine broke!
I see that both times the OEM cylinder haves defect to imports! This is the reason that iam thinking to try something else!
So please reply your views! If someone haves allready fit the kit on a bike!
Goodbye
Plz answear me as soon as impossible you can!

WOW! 2 cylinders already! And one after only 5hrs! Something is wrong for sure. If you know it is defective cylinders and not something else causing your bike to break all the time then i would go the Athena kit, but make sure its not some other problem causing engine failure.

WOW 2 cylinders something deffinately wrong there you need to find out whats going on causing your engine to blow. What pre-mix ratio are you useing? You could be running the engine way too lean either by way of in correct jetting or pre-mix itself is too lean. Check the jets in the carb and see if it's jetted correctly. Check your lower rod bearings make sure they are good.

Check for an air leak as well.
Crank seals, air boot & reed block.
If you don't fall off you are not going hard enough

Hi guys!
Thanks for your replys! Most i was using the MOTUL factory line 2T 800 premix oil!
Well the first time i change cylinder was after two years of use!
I brought the bike new in 2006!I was following the manual as it say,i change the first piston(A) after a few hours of running with the (B).
When i was change the piston we saw that the stock cylinder at the imports between them the piston was getting worst!
You know between the imports haves a space which space is like a line!
My father which is mechanical when he saw the cylinder says that it looks like the cylinder was defect!
So i brought a new one and after some use i have the same problem at the same place!
This is the reason where iam thinking to try the Athena Cylinder kit(144) now!
Braaaaaaaaap!

maybe your cylinder is suffering from lack of lube on the exhaust port, causing damage to nikasil. try driling 2 small holes in the piston, were he meets the "line" on cylinder.

why donb't you grab one of the damage cylinders, and overbore it and get a new sleeve?! maybe you can go 144 with an used cylinder and save some money.. don't know how much that would cost in Greece!

cheers

mxforever when you get new cylinders and pistons you have to match (A) piston with (A) cylinder and (B) piston with (B) cylinder they have to match as a pair when useing OEM parts. There are very slight differances between the (A) parts and the (B) parts. We can't tell with the naked eyes but there is a differance. Hope this helps you
