Front axle... Showing
« on: July 20, 2011, 01:34:15 AM »
After installing my new front wheel bearings I noticed I can see a cm or two of my front wheel axle on the right side (left side if you're looking at the front number plate.) And I don't recall how it looked before I took the wheel off. I'm a total beginner mechanic, this is the first bike I have ever had to maintain on my own. So is it ok or did I do something wrong? My bike is an 03 Yamaha YZ125.

Can you post a pic...  It's easier to diagnose if we can see it.

Maybe the pinch bolts on the forks were done up before the axle nut? Has anyone told you the right steps to refit a front wheel? Its easy to get it wrong when ya learning.
Or youve slightly mushroomed the end of the axle by hitting it? That happened to my last YZ byits previius owner

Yeah you fit the axle through, tighten it till it starts spinning, tighten the pinch bolts on the right side of the bike to finish tightening, then after its tight loosen the pinch bolts and re tighten them on both sides. Right? idk why but my collars just dont cover the whole axle. I havent gotten a chance to look at the bike because its at a friends house and I have not gotten a chance to get it back. but Im getting it today.

Nevermind. Compressed the forks problem solved. I just hadn't gotten a chance to play with it.
