The 150 is deff not for begginers or rookies to keeping in the the powerband like some1 previously said its mid and top and will rev to the moon but if you dont keep it on the pipe it'll fall flat on its face but will reward you with gobs of power if you keep here wound up. I think that why alot of pros say it feels like a factory built 125. I agree if your new to big bikes your better buy would be the yz 125 i rode an 09 not too long ago and it had awesome bottom for a 125. Thats why I bought the 250sx I love my 150 but I'm a college student who doesnt get to workout a whole lot and I'm always busy so keeping her wrung out constantly was just wearing me out got sick of working for it. But I decided to keep my 150 mostly because the depreciation was too much for me plus it sure is a fun bike. Whatever you decide to buy I'm glad your getting a two stroke and remember keep her on the pipe!

I actually think that's what makes the bike fun and challenging, I love making a bike scream, 4 stroke I'm afraid to do that because it could cost me$$. In reality the 2 stroke felt faster(even if it wasnt) just because your always ringing the antifreeze out of it. I just want to have fun again

Maybe a slight gearing change will fatten up the bottom end without losing too much on top

I can speak from experience here. I have a yz125 and bought a 2011 ktm150sx first thing i noticed was that the yz125 was way crisper on the throttle and seem to have  more bottom end power, but once it got into the mid the ktm was quite powerful. I originally thought it was a great power-band, but had only been riding well groomed or recently rained on tracks so traction was not an issue. Then i got to a race and the track was getting really dry and hammered and that no bottom and great mid on up turned into uncontrollable wheel spin and rider fatigue. Bike is very tuneable and i think I could have made engine more to my liking but suspension also would need some work to even come close to what the yamaha has stock so I traded in for a new yz125 and I am very happy that i did.

My opinion is that yes 150sx is a faster motor but not a faster bike, if that make sense? you can just push harder on a yz125(suspension allows this), and the throttle response and bottom end makes up for the difference in mid/top end pull advantage the 150sx has(supposably suspension can be good but not for cheap). if you ride sand or groomed tracks the 150sx motor is great if you ride a lot of hard pack yz125 engine and suspension will more make up for less cc's my laptimes are for sure faster on yz125 and i am close to 200lb.

I would try on on tracks in conditions that you mostly ride before buying on, not to mention look up parts difference(cylinder, pistons etc) stock for stock you will find more then double the cost on most of them(after i looked it up I thought I might as well have bought a yz250f).

Not trying to be to much of a downer but i was also very excited to get the 150sx and it only stayed in my possession for 12hrs before it lost its appeal to me.

Good accurate evaluation 2stroke nut.Thanks  8)
I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

Nope tried that went upto 52 on rear from 50 and my yz125 still had more out of the hole.

Sounds strange. Was the jetting off ?

alright guys all though you guys say the ktm has almost no bottom im still going to take the gamble. Heres my next question, which should i get a 2011 or 2012. 2012 has first year linkage, do you think maybe it'll make the suspension kind of funky? Or was the pds already funky enough

I have an older 300 EXC version.  it has the PDS suspension, and it works great for off-road.  The suspension is too soft for MX, but since I ride off-road and only MX now and then its perfect for me.  That being said, I'd get the newest technology with the newest frame geometry you can get.

MXA rode the 2012, although i think it was the 250 and they said that the linkage worked as well as they had got the PDS to work and it was a little easier to adapt to different tracks than the PDS. I'd go the '12
