Rieju is one of the last of the "cottage industry" motorcycle manufacturers (one of the last of a vanishing breed). When Rotax discontinued their 250cc 2T dirt bike engine they eliminated a couple of micro manufacturers (Alfer and Kramit) and deprived ATK of a core powerplant. We just lost Derbi and the sport needs more participants not less.

While opinions may differ I think it's safe to say that more then a few forum members have a lot of saddle time and it's good that they are willing to share this knowledge.I'm starting to sense that this site is developing a reputation as a source for technical info. and this is a nice advantage to have out in cyber space (however we do need to educate Ford that a pair of vice grips IS NOT an adjustable wrench). ;D

Are you sure ? :P

I bet if you asked ford to buy you a sky hook he would go out looking. ;D

Anybody seen my board/pipe stretcher? ;D
If a pair of 2" brass balls isn't working, I doubt that the 3" model will make much difference.

I disagree.A pair of vise grips most definitely is the ultimate adjustable wrench in the mechanical world. The only known exception would be Maico-land.In this location,a pair of vise grips would be a vastly superior footpeg, shifter, brake etc.
I'm leaving shortly to take the little one fishing for the first time this spring.I'll look for the skyhook while there and report back. :)
I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

Ha! The first Maico I ever rode had a Vice-Grip as a footpeg! Now that brings memories flooding back in (I thought I repressed)!

Reiju is an interesting concept and it's not really fair to compare it to other motocrossers or even enduro bikes. It is not on par with them. You might compare it to an XR, a true trail bike, though it is watercooled and not as good as an XR. I've looked at it and came to the personal conclusion that it is in fact junk but that is not a bad thing. It fills a nitch and it will allow the company to grow into the market. Maybe their next model will be more race oriented.

most of the problems i have encountered whit rieju 50cc have been user error

poor maintenance and using power filter that suck sand right in..

rieju use steel cylinders and i see many that ride wide open on cold engines something is bound to give

Now that we have visual confirmation of a sky hook maybe the guys downunder can fill us in on it's purpose?

The 50cc Riejus use Minarelli motors if I am not mistaken.

I once did some work on a 175 KTM and what a beautiful bike it was.I think 175cc was an ideal size for an offroad motorcycle, the Kaw KDX 175 being an excellent example. ;D

Indeed, the 50cc Rieju's use Minarelli AM 6 engine.
I still have my old Aprilia RS 50 from 1998. This uses a minarelli AM 5 engine, but in some other countries the AM6.
With 26mm carb, good exhaust and 76cc cylinder, it pushes around 120-125kph. Fun stuff!

And speaking of 175cc;
A good friend of mine still has his Yamaha DT175 from the late seventies, or was it early eighties..???
It's a nice and very fun bike!
