I just have to say, i'm a gear head and always have been.  I've got a hot rod v6 t-bird, cool truck that I recently got a supercharger for, numerous bikes/quads/ 3 wheelers, etc...  People naturally assume that I "enjoy" working on stuff, but honestly, I don't.  I enjoy the results, but I'm not the kind of guy who looks forward to doing routine maintenance or even fabbing up exhaust, etc...  I just don't really enjoy doing it.  But saving money and/or seeing the fruits of my labor make it worth it.

However, I'm helping a friend fix up a CR125 and I spent last night cleaning the carb, adjusting the floats, making note of the jets, fixing up and rerouting the vent tubes, cleaning the airbox/filter, etc.... and it occured to me, I actually enjoy working on 2 strokes.  We aren't rebuilding it, but we are going to yank the head and disassemble the power valves for a good cleaning/inspection.  I'm even looking forward to that.

Thank god for 2 strokes.

If a pair of 2" brass balls isn't working, I doubt that the 3" model will make much difference.

I've always loved working in a/my shop. I enjoy putting my skills to work, and I am always looking for a project. :)
But yes 2 strokes are great to work on, simple and enjoyable. :)

I would much rather do a top end rebuild on my two stroke than even basic maintenance on a four stroke. Just changing the oil on a four stroke is real pain in the ass, and definitely not enjoyable !!

I just don't like the whole process, I have no troubles with it or cleaning them. I just think it's a pain and not enjoyable  :) .

I'm the same way. I know using 927 I'll be cleaning the PV more often, but hey I love the stuff!  ;D

I like the power valves.  They are like a puzzle that fits together one way.  If you are fighting something, you need to take a step back because you are doing it wrong.

Yup, hate power valves and water cooling.  Esp. the older non-oring heads, always have trouble with those leaking.

1 large guillotine valve and 1 shaft. Easy peezy.

I too enjoy "tinkering" on my equipment as well. I'm finishing a crank replacement on my son's Honda 400ex quad. Yes I know it's a 4 stroke, yes I know it's a quad, but it's what he prefers. The 400ex is basically the old XR400 engine with electric start. The piston had seized to the piston pin due to excessive play in the rod bearings.  Its been a fun project. Other than a flywheel pulled if been able to use standard shop tools.  Yes I had. To deal with other moving parts (timing chain, cam, valves etc) but it really hasn't been too bad.

This was the first time I split the cases.  Now that i know it's not overly complicated it won't be the last.
