I'm fairly sure nobody on this forum would believe anything along the lines of plastics factoring into laptimes.

WTF R U talking about??
If a pair of 2" brass balls isn't working, I doubt that the 3" model will make much difference.

That is a sweet looking scoot though, I prefer the Oberdan Bezzi's rendition of what a modern Ancillotti could look like to the Yamaha plastic. the rad shroud could be bigger and the side panels more oval.

Aluminum and Fiberglass for the win!  Although I think you gotta have plastic fenders, otherwise you'll be buying new ones every time you crash.  But the thing I really like about, say, an aluminum gas tank is that you can actually paint the damn thing and it won't hemorrhage gas fumes.  Not really important now that the gas tanks are hidden away beneath radiators and plastic crop-circle-look-alikes, though. [/rant]

Is this Maico a 440 or only a 400?  Well in all the confusion, I forgot myself.
But considering this is a 1978 Magnum, the best-handling bike in the world, you have to ask yourself one question.
Do you feel lucky, punk?

The reason micro manufacturers use off the shelf plastic is because injection molds are extremely expensive and in the case of motorcycles you have a lot of right and left pieces.

As for the Lemming like tendencies of modern humanity I'm afraid there is no hope because modern media is so penetrating and persuasive. No body has the guts to break the mold and be an individual. The major manufacturers, through their advertising dollars, heavily influence magazines who in turn brainwash the readers of these magazines.Add in the suspect directors of major sanctioning bodies (read AMA for example) and include a crooked environmental hype and you have the present 4T fiasco.

My father encouraged me to be an individual and follow my own destiny. At every turn of my life I have tried to remain true to this philosophy, come h*ll or highwater, and if I want to purchase a 150 Ancillotti well that is what I will do (weird or not).  >:(

A lot of people don't know about this mod, but if you put the front fender on backwards, you can fly

I dont give a shit about what colour/size/shape/where it's made, crap about plastics.
It's what's underneath that is important to me.
I'll take an Ancillotti anyday. Like Sachs I have never followed the herd.

i don't think you guys are getting his post.  He is basically saying that magazines are helping push this whole 2 stroke thing, by saying things that don't mean much on the track, but do push people away from buying something.  Like saying the plastic is old looking etc.  But his point is that, plastic doesn't mean anything on lap times, but they persuade readers that it does kind of, by saying if it looks old, it must not be as fast.

The only thing plastics can really change is how comfortable/grip the bike feels while siting and maybe a little weight lost.

It's not hard to persuade a 18 yo kid wearing a ball cap 3 sizes too big, sideways with the sales tag still on it, and his pants hanging off his ass, to believe that a bike with half the displacement and maintainance costs  ain't as fast or "pimptastic" as his overweight aluminum framed fuelinjected timebomb, yo,
If a pair of 2" brass balls isn't working, I doubt that the 3" model will make much difference.
