easy to adjust air screw for air striker carb?
« on: January 22, 2011, 11:16:32 AM »
Does any one make a longer air screw with a knurled knob on it similar to what you see on 4 stroke carbs for the adjustable fuel screw.
this would make tuning so much easier if you didn't have to try and find the slot with a small screwdriver while wacking the throttle
especialy with 46 yo eyes.

Not that I'm aware of due to the easy access.I can appreciate the eye issue though :(
I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

It would appear I was wrong :o
Oh well,I knew it had to happen sooner or later-I'm just glad to get it out of the way :D

Here you go.....

..though you appear to have to let him mod your carb in order to buy it.Oh well.

I'd just remove it and find a washer or something (or slot screwdriver bit)that fits the groove tightly, grind it down and jbweld it in.If it holds great-if not,it wouldn't harm anything and you'd just be back where you started.

Thanks for the response, I don't want to pay that guy 160 bucks just so I can get his fancy screw. guess I will attempt to make my own.

sweet I wonder if it comes in red. But honestly I have never needed to readjust mine. I leaned out my pilot one size when I got the bike, slight adjustment, New FMF pipe=no changes required. higher altitude, cold weather, hot weather, racegas 104, 87, havent touched it.
If a pair of 2" brass balls isn't working, I doubt that the 3" model will make much difference.

This is one I made for my AirStriker carb last year.  I already had the SS cable and brass, so it only cost me time. You can't see it, but I made a notch in the end so I can see where it is set.  And despite the brass end being smooth, I've never had any problems turning the screw with my gloves on.

I originally made one completely from brass, but it didn't have the external spring like the RB screw.  It was too heavy and without the tension/support of an external spring, it moved around too much as you turned it out.

The SS cable is light and flexes if you hit or knock it.

Nice job Ted.The problem with any of those set-ups as I see it would be due to the A.H. Buddies I ride with. Most would love to see something like that so they could fiddle it-or take it right out when you weren't looking >:(Of course,I'd do the same :-[

I have a mate the same ford.
Every time he see's something new and shiny he has to touch it.
Like a bloody magpie.

Good job Ted. I might have to make one for my bike.
Just need to keep away the magpie. ;)
