« on: December 06, 2010, 09:08:29 AM »
read on miuke sleeters face book that Ty Siminoe was on fire and won a title at the amateur opens on a KTM 2 strokes - not sure what the classes are there though? are they equal displacement as its amateur?

Nope, that is what the powers that be try to convince everyone. Texas runs the same rules as the ProAMA does.  They are not AMA sanctioned events so they run what rules they want.  It is a little known fallacy that people say 99% of the population can race with cc vs cc.  But as you see, not even.  I believe Cali races also run the ProAMA sizes as well, but I may be wrong on that. I think that is what I was pm'ed from someone who races there, but he is a VET, so don't know if he was even sure.  What is so (not really) funny about all of this, is it makes a mockery of motocross.  When is the last time in motocross history that you didn't know what class you would be racing in, in what state you visit.  It's all over the board, and it's time to make it equal across the board again. Although I do know it would not be wise for AMA to change their rules to match ProAMA, because I had received an email from a rider and he was a lawyer who said he would sue them class action if they did. Since they made people switch back a while ago, and then again to equal. I don't remember the jargon he used.  But he said he would be really po'ed if they switched to ProAMA rules in the AMs again.  So if it was 100% equal cc's in all amatuers, I think we would see more people switching back again, but it isn't and definitely no where close to 99%. Even the offroad TORO here runs 250 vs 450. I asked the guy who ran that too.

Unfortunately, the amateur rules across the United States are a mess!! Some follow the AMA Amateur rules, some follow the Pro rules and others have their own rules. It was much easier in the past when it was equal displacement, it was the same everywhere. With the new Handicap rules it's a mess for anyone traveling or folks in certain areas that are looking for equal rules.

In my local area they follow the Pro AMA rules....

Congratulations to Ty Siminoe! From the photo he looks to be fast and aggressive.

Life is short.

Smile while you still have teeth!
