Cr500 project
« on: December 22, 2009, 06:10:24 PM »
I have an 87 CR500 that I am thinking of using the engine in a modern frame. My 08 YZ250 is the best bike I ever owned. Does anyone know if the engine will fit if I could find a chassis? I have a welder that can handle this but I think there may be more to consider than "is there enough room".  My other option is to modernize the 87. Downside to that is old seals, bearings, radiators, and other parts that eat up $ or are hard to find. Like the Cummins in my truck that old 87 engine is all I really care about. I just need a way to enjoy that deeeep braaaaap of the 500. Thanks.

msambuco - Anything is possible, but it will depend on so many factors that it will not be an easy question for anyone other than you to answer.

My suggestion is to learn as much as you possibly can about other who have successfully modified two-stroke motors into new style frames.

Here is the link to an article on the main site which might prove helpful.

Everything will hinge on how much you are willing to spend. Sometimes it is so much cheaper in the long run to just buy something already finished. I'd suggest that you check out this site, they build frames for conversions and might be able to set you up with what you need.
