Go answer this poster on JB19  tell him something. Tell him, he'd be saying it again wrong. Tell him most of Texas runs the ProAMA rules, not the amateur.  Tell him even offroad here in Texas, TORO I know for sure, runs the 125 vs 250F and 250 vs 450F rules.  I'm sure there is many many places who don't run AMA amateur rules, where they still run the old crappy rules. So to say 99.9% is an epic failure.  By the way, you probably wanna leave my name out of it. I was clicked off there for no "apparent" reason, but my name is dirt. Just talk the points.

The other .1% of the sport that it affects don't seem to mind that they are racing 4 strokes.

One more thought.   On the post regarding when did KTM become cool. I don't think it is solidly on just the wins or 2 stroke thing. But they started becoming cool, when they listened to the consumer.   They don't try to shove what they think we want down our throats.  They build a bike for about everyone. In the old days, Honda did that. I remember my atc days. 70cc 90cc 110cc 125cc 185cc 200cc 200x also, 250cc 4 stroke, 250cc 2 stroke, etc.  Now, it's ride what we tell you to ride, or ride nothing.  KTM filled that void.  That is my opinion on why they became cool. But the 2 stroke thing probably made things even more amplified, because many who would not even think about them, had to think either KTM or Yamaha, and only one is 6 years old designs.

Good points on both. It looks like there is some good arguments for the petition, and not just for DC.
