Pre-race strategies?
« on: September 20, 2010, 07:53:58 PM »
Hey guys.

I was just wondering how you guys prepare for a race?

What should you eat for dinner/ breakfast?

Is there anything you should drink before the race other than plenty of water?

How the heck can I get to sleep?!

(if your feeling extra informative, I like bouncing ideas about this with other racers) What bike preps do you do?

For me its the training for several weeks before the race, and bike prep that make a difference.

Most of the problems I have had were from poor set up, and poor preparation.

Stay in shape, Eat right, and maintain your machine.

Eat a lot of carbs before the race (MMM Pancakes).

Right before the race I just try to relax and breath slowly, And remember that I am only doing this for fun. If I can run fast at the end of the race I know I will be fine.

Don't try to beat guys that are faster than you, Try to keep them in sight so you can learn from them, If they make a mistake late in the race you might get by.

You have to finish to win.

Have Fun!

I quit trucking to race this past summer,it rained 4 weeks straight. So I did some training, stationary bike low level-40 minutes twice at 90rpm to get my heart pumping hard. Inbetween storms mountain bike on streets, top gear sprint as hard as you can. I ran on dirt trails, mix sprints in and run a very steep intertubing hill, did some track sprints on the concrete. About 2.5 months of  stretching in a steam room and whirlpool, sauna  trying to get muscle knots out and to lose muscle from the waist up, you get ripped from trucking, butbeing ripped is the last thing you want to race. You want to be flexable and loose. I planned on racing the RacerX vet series, there,s alot of fast vets on 450,s  in 40 a and 35 a, so my only chance was to run them down late in the race on my CR144. Other years I wouldn,t ride for 7 months, I would do a quick bycycle ride and some track sprints, load the bike and go race. Eat alot of spagetti, hydrate before race day and on race day. If racing more than 1 class, eat banana baby food it,s broke down already,it,s great for energy, endur x  is a powder you mix with water, it,s the best recovery drink, helps with arm pump also.

drink a lot of water the week before racing,

if you drink lot of water in the day of the race you will make lots of trips to the toilet :P

eat bananas, ciocolate, i drink milk cuz it hidrates me(but it can make you sleepy :P )

on the track try to not push hard becouse if you crash you lose more time

just spray plenty of silicone wipe on your competitor bike seat.
