MotoGP rule change- 125gp will be no more in 2012
« on: August 15, 2010, 11:34:23 AM »
Reason number.... um...(I lost count a long time ago) why Moto GP SUCKS!!!

Read this: http://www.motogp.com/en/news/2010/Grand+Prix+Commission+announce+rule+amendments+in+Brno

Another reason why racing on a world scale sucks, I hope Dorna burns in hell for this. So I wonder who's going to build the Moto 3 engines. Maybe we should have a poll on who's going to be the engine builder, I'm thinking Honda.

"The basic concept is a 250cc, 4-stroke, one-cylinder engine with a maximum bore of 81mm. The aim is to make this category more competitive and cheaper. "
more competitive and cheaper, how do they plan on doing that again?  ???
aaahhhhh yes, I remember the good old days

actually, yes it will be cheaper. Because one of the manufacturers will step up with a spec engine, just like they did in the former 250 class (now called Moto2). Honda agreed to supply the engine, which is based on the CBR600RR. Projected horsepower was to be 150. Well, they couldn;t get any reliability out of 150hp so they brought it down to around 125. The 600's are now SLOWER than the 250's. The racing is much tighter and the grid is huge, so all the 4 stroke fanatics are pointing out how much sense it made to bring in the 600's. Oh yeah, that's what every wants to watch - SLOWER BIKES. Hell why not just have a bunch of BMW Boxer Twins riding around while you're at it, that's close racing too <rolls eyes>

My BS Alarm just broke...

edit: maybe I read that wrong. okay I did read that wrong, honda is claiming there new cbr600 will have 150hp at the crank and that they are trying to get the weight down to 222lbs. I have to see this, rofl...

Even getting 150hp from a 600cc motor would be funny, because a .6 liter motor would be making 150hp, which is in a sense NHRA Nitro Status...ROFL.

Don't worry my BS alarm went off back in 2001 with the MotoGP class.

I hear the kids riding STOCK Moriwakis in USGPRU like them and you don't have to do much up keep to them. Well, NO SHIT!!! It's STOCK!!! They don't race stock TZ or RS 125's in the USGPRU, their pushing 50+ hp. Try doing that with a CRF250R engine it's not going to last long and it's going to cost a boat load to fix the smashed head when the piston decided to have enough.

The Moto2 class is a complete joke. They wanted a 150 hp 600cc Honda engine, that would be reliable. I haven't seen a 150 hp 600 yet. The max I've seen is about 130-135 at the rear wheel and that's not going to last long. I've seen them race once, but I had to force myself to watch.

I can't believe they have the balls to just out right ban the 2 stroke with out a fair fight. This is a disgrace to the racing world. Then again I hope it bites them in the ass, and it will at some point.

I have just finished reading the new rule change and found a few interesting points.
It wont be a 1 make engine.
The engine manufactor has to supply enough engines for 15 riders.
Dont know how that will pan out with only 40 riders.
eg. Honda 15/Yamaha 15/Aprillia 15/KTM 15/. If my maths are correct that's 60 engines ?

All the manufactors have signed of on it so unless the euro manufactors dont want to enter i dont think it will be a Honda benifit. I bloody hope not  ::)
The motors have to be available for under 10K euro.
They have set the max bore at 81mm so they wont be ultra high rev engines. Current mx engines are about 78mm.
My problem with the rules are how slow are these bikes going to be ?
A worked mx engine is putting out about 45hp.
A 125GP engine is putting out about 60hp.

Every one knows how unreliable a 250F can be when you ring it's neck. :o
On a mx track the motor is only at full throttle & max revs/Full load for a small time.
On a GP track that motor is going to be at red line for a bloody long time. Straights are between 600m-1km long.
I dont see them being able to put out decent HP without them droping their guts all over the track.
When was the last time you saw a 125 engine lunch it's self on the track ? Pretty reliable i say.

I hope i am wrong but a can see a few crashes coming up caused by engines lunching themselfs and droping oil all over the track. :(
The single cylinder 4 stroke was never intended to be a race motor.Well not with the revs they are trying to do.
If it was the japenese would never have made 4-6 cylinder 250's in the past.

People are saying that the 125 class has got too expensive. Well the only reason it has is with all the other manufactors pulling out Aprillia decided to make some serious money by charging alot of money for their bikes.
They would not have been able to do that if there was competition from the other manufactors.

Looks like what is supposed to be the top class has turned into production racing. >:(

I may still watch it-or not.I don't pay too much attention to moto 2 now that they're all Honda.Oddly enough, not because it's Honda but because I like the disparity in machinery. When they're all virtually the same,I lose interest.
I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

Very much sucks, if they wished to control costs then do so with limiting the twostrokes so they have to be available for under 10K!! Anyway looks as though interesting racing is now dead, for me watching racing is about watching the pinacle of performance out there regardless of engine size!

So now the question is will there be a possibilty for a new series to emege which pits the ultimate performance bikes against each other? Guess there is no room for that but would be cool!  :)

I totally agree with Wayne Gardner. He should know by now because he rode that NSR500 so damn hard he crashed his brains out more than anyone in the 500 class. I loved how he rode that thing. :P

Well right now most nations have their own 250GP and 125 GP championship series. We (USA) have USGPRU, and you can race these bikes in WERA, CCS, and others. The UK (from what I heard) has UKGPRU, and last I knew they were racing under BSB in their own class. And for Australia, I have no clue. Does any one know?

I think 125GP and 250GP racing will still be around for a while. Although Honda has gone price gouging and stopped producing most parts. Yamaha has always been expensive in the parts department, but should still produce parts till about 2019. On a good note you can get after market parts for the RS's (Honda) and TZ's (Yamaha).
