General Two Stroke Talk / KTM 2 stroke fuel injection
« on: April 04, 2013, 07:23:53 AM »
You know darn well he was talking collectively. And a 125 Bangkok two stroke probably puts out more unburned hydrocarbons then that hummer (perhaps even two of them).

I see so someone on a 125 two stroke bike weaving through Bangkok traffic uses more fuel than 1 person in their Hummer/F150 in a LA traffic jam?

That only means anything if you believe in all that global warming stuff,
apparently there's  been no warming in last 18 years

Awesome work uniflow! Think I seen your other bike out Maddix park a while back.
I started a EFI project for my YZ 144 but put that in the too hard basket for now.

Are you working out of a machine shop in Tauranga somewhere?
I ask as I need some bike(non motor type) parts CNCed up,

Scott

Yes probably, you don't see too many Bighorn Kawasaki's around these days. The day you would have seen  the Kawasaki the fuel pump split, it only ran for a short while.
I live in Hamilton, machine shop in the yard out the back of the house. Walk to work every morning. We already do a bit of work for Wobbly. Certainly I'm interested but we are very busy at the moment, your job might have to sit in line.

Sweet as, what I need is small scale production run of parts I have been using a guy up Waipu ways and just looking at other options.
PM me your email and I'll be in touch

Scott

The scientists that discredited Pons and Fleishmans work had billons of dollars invested in their own hot fusion experiments.

do a search on "LENR" or low energy nuclear reaction, there is an italian company make reactor units right now!

all I can say about 9/11 is dont believe the TV

Perhaps a typo, but 9/11 was carried out by terrorists so I am not quite sure what your point is.

Regarding cold fusion -- in the late '80s a couple chemists Pons and Fleishman thought they had seen evidence of cold fusion. Some sort of lab explosion. Boy was THAT all over the news back then for about a month. Futures of palladium went through the roof because of the content of their paper. Note that these jokers were NOT nuclear physicists. I remember thinking the days of high cost (dollars and environmental damage) energy were over. That quickly evaporated when NOBODY could reproduce the experiment -- such as it was. The cold fusion assert by these guys, IMHO, is a Myth.

Now I read something on He3, a stable atom that shares with hydrogen the feature that the proton count exceeds the neutron count. Some sort of other theory that it might be used to form a cold fusion reaction. BUT, as stated in another post, the stuff is pretty darn rare and the catalyzing effect that is required to sustain such a reaction apparently can not be sustained. So it appears to be a no-go as well.

Just my $0.02. I would not count on that being a part of our future any more than a 15 kw solar array for your house will cost less than a grand.

Cold fusion is a "myth" is just like saying 9/11 was carried out by "terrorist"
It's comming apparently

Cold fusion is a myth

Well now that cold fusion looks like a reality, I'd imadine something like the ktm with some kind of solid state cold fusion reactor and would most likely last the life of the bike before it would need refueling :o

Making nuclear materials available to the general public doesn't sound like the best of ideas :P

All materials are nuclear, cold fusion can use hydrogen and nickle to make a reaction.

using lazers to over power the strong force would be hot fusion,
my understanding is the use of a high frequency of 1 000 093 hz can alow nutrons to merge in to atoms and then the photons decay, or something along those lines, turning hydrogen and nickel in to helium and copper go google it

It isn't a myth, we just don't have the material(Helium 3) to do it. Also, Cold fusion is safe...
From why I thought I understood h3 wasn't cold fusion, it was just a more stable version of helium which allows the standard hot fission process to be carried out for more than a millionth of a second.
You still need the giant MW lasers to heat it to the point where the weak forces are removed allowing the 3 heliums to merge

Correct me if I'm wrong

I'm all for EFI on 2 strokes as the volumetric efficiency does change alot more through out the rpm range than 4 strokes, something you cant tune out with a carb.

So is one of the reasons the AMA nationals have gone to a one day thing is because it cost too much to run a 4 stroke mx bike for more than one day?

You're only listening to shows after he has already talked about it.  He has covered 2-strokes at length and feels the topic is a dead horse.  In past shows (specifically Dec 01 podcast labeled The News with Tits Legendary, I'll even give you a time marker where he starts talking about it.  Minute 54) he gives his full honest opinion on what happened when 4-strokes came on the scene and how it feels about it.  You need to remember Matthes has been a factory mechanic for Yamaha when they came out with the 400, 426, and 250F.

If you don't feel like listening to the show his statements are pretty pro 2-stroke, he puts a lot of the blame on the OEMs and AMA for not toning down the 4-strokes when it was obvious they were an advantage.  And especially a bad taste for how Yamaha pushed the 250F and pretty much put an end to the 125 class.

Just a little insight on that, If the OEM's knew full well that the 4 strokes had a displacement advantage that everyone would have to go out and buy new bikes to replace the older uncompatitive ones????

or am I way off?

AMEN!!!
Just had a guy come into the shop tonight, I am a professional tattoo artist and own a shop. He asked me about my DR650s and if I had any other bikes.
Me:"2007 Kx250-"
Him:"the four stroker?"
Me:"HELL NO!"
Him:"I have a YZ450, it's way too much, I love the hit on a 250 2stroke."
Me:"The sell it and get a 250 2stroke."
Him:"Yamaha only makes the 85 now."
Me:" who told you that BS ?"
Him:"The sales man down at the Yamaha shop."
Me:"Which one?"
Him"So&SO"
Me:" That guy is full of sh#t, they still make and import the 125 and the 250, that a@#hat doesn't even ride a motorcycle. Go talk to So&So, trade the grenade in on a new yz250, you'll have to order it. If you don't want to wait, you can find them used in good shape, and rebuild the topend for $150. How many hours are on your 450?"
Him:" IDK it's and 06"
Me:" rebuild it now, don't wait till next week, order the piston kit tonight from ****sport.com, they will ship it free over night, call me when you get it, I will install it for you, and break it in properly. While I have it, post it on Craigslist, and start looking for a 250 2st. I saw at least 20 different ones today all well under $3500."
Him:"OK man"

Now hopefully he'll do it, but he won't,he also stated that he has a ti-carbon fiber exhaust   ::)

thats a good one  :P

So how far off is the first race? and how much testing will he get in?
whats the goss....

also wonder if KTM will just sit on there hands on this? but I guess it still works in there favour as it's all about 2 vs 4 and they sell em.

I've read before that polishing the ports is actually counter productive and that rough edges on the ports is actually perferred.  Something about an air boundary layer which can cause worse flow instead of better flow.  Sizing of the ports also has some limitations and moves the power in the revs, from what I have heard.

Of course, I don't really know :)

The simple version:  Make more fuel/air flow and it needs to be mixed. Smoothing the actual path of the fuel/air is bad because the air and fuel if seperated will not burn as clean, thus less power.  But lot's more involved.

I guess it's the same reason that they have dimples on golf balls vs smooth balls?? or not lol
