General Two Stroke Talk / engine differences between 2001 and 2005 yz250
« on: January 05, 2014, 07:12:23 PM »
Maybe it is in 99 when the motor changed.  Actually I think I got confused.  02 is when the airbox changed to the current design...  I still wouldn't trust it with a adiff part #..

Pretty sure the 02 fwd engine is a different design from previous motors.  I think this is when the cylinder was rotated to be more vertical and the power valve design changed.  I have an 02, I think I remember it being a new design for that yr...  If it's a diff part number it probably won't work..

General Two Stroke Talk / China Hat ISDE

No.  I didn't bring the gopro this year.  Too dusty.  Just had my ipod on and listened to tunes the whole time.  Makes it more enjoyable.

And yes, it wasn't moto.  There isn't any moto in Central Oregon.  It's all pumice sand and rocks...

Hey WTFactoryX!  You didn't miss much at the ISDE.  It was fast and dusty!  The 2nd loop in the desert was rediculous.  One big line of bikes evenly spaced because of the dust.  1st 50 miles was pretty decent though.  I'd think twice bout the hare and hound on May 18th.  It's more open desert and a mass start.

Too late for the ISDE.  Numbers came out last night and no post entry.  I'm on minute 5.  Next race out there is at the ODOT pit and it's a Hare & Hound 108 miles on May 19th...  It's on the OMRA schedule as the Monkey Butt XC...

That's great.  Just like Dungy and his new air forks?  Heh.  No one is arguing a computer can't do a better job at air/fuel mixtures.  I just don't want to see it as the only option someday because of the added expense and guess work.  Jetting charts are a no brainer and jetting can be changed inside of 10 minutes no matter where you are without some electronic device wand batteries..

WTFactoryX are you the dude in Bend, OR???  If so are you ridin the ISDE this weekend?

It's cozy under my rock!  No thanks, you can have my share of bikes when it hits..

Cars/trucks don't come with carbs because of the EPA...  Some people will like EFI, some won't.  Some say it will make a 2 stroke more 4 stroke like. Who the hell wants that?  Some say it's simpler....  Until something in the system goes out.  Good luck finding that problem.  Diagnosing car issues is next to impossible with all the computerized crap.  Not that a bike would be anywhere near as complex, but still....  Guess I'll get me some deals on those old carb bikes when the EFI bikes are released.  Are catalytic converters next for dirt bikes?  Computer controlled suspension?  That'll sure make em better..   I'm old and not friendly to change.  I figure what works awesome now doesn't need changing.  But it'll make for new marketing strategies....

I agree with Fabbo.  Adding complexity(computer controled EFI) to a 2 stroke kinda defeats the simplicity principal of owning one in the first place.  I really don't think I'd ever own an EFI model.  Sooner or later, the electronics will fail.  And how much more will these new bikes cost.  $7k for a big bore 125 (150) before adding necessary items is rediculous.  What will it be with fuel injection?  Computer programs?  Laptop?  A buddy of mine has a Husky 310 with fuel injection.  Brand new.  Had to get it remapped just to change the pipe.  And the dealer screwed it up the first time they tried.  Imagine joe schmo trying to do it in his garage.  No Thanks!  I'd rather keep it simple and less expensive..  Isnt' that why the sport is shrinking in the first place?  Expense??????

Same jetting running interceptor yielded no build up.  Will never run redline in anything I own.  927 may very well be good oil, but gummed the hell out of my pwr valve on a 97 yz250. stock jetting at 1000 ft...  Just sayin...  There are a few oils I'll never use again.  Happy with amsoil so no need for further experimentation...

I've tried lots of different oils and premix.  For premix I tried Amsoil interceptor after Redline caused stuck rings and power valve sludge.  Castor 927 smells great, but again, too much buildup.  Interceptor burns clean and I have yet to have any build up on a piston crown or PV.  I liked it so much I became a dealer to get better pricing.  I run it in all my bikes, my ultralight trike, and my jetskis.  For Tranny Yamaha recommends 10w40.  So I use amsoils 10w40.  Clutch action is smooth and the synthetic additives help keep seals pliable longer.
It's competitively priced too.  If you're mail ordering, I can set you up to get dealer cost if you are interested...

General Two Stroke Talk / YZ250 cylinder question
« on: February 23, 2013, 03:26:07 PM »
The whole bike.  I've got 5 bikes and ride the 285 the least amount so it's time to go.  Very few hours on it since new.  Raced it a few times on GP and XC but it only gets ridden a few times/yr...

General Two Stroke Talk / YZ250 cylinder question
« on: February 23, 2013, 01:52:40 AM »
I have an 02 and an 05 yz.  When the 02 needed replating, I sent it in to max power for a 285 kit and put the 05 on my 02.  Shouldn't be a problem.  If they made any changes it was probably just to the porting....  The 05 285 is for sale BTW..

General Two Stroke Talk / MX2 problems

Well said Jeram.  The older one gets, the more he/she should be able to figure out that most everything you've ever been taught is a friggin lie to either get you to hand over your money or to bow to govt policy.  Free country?  Yeah, free to think what they have designed you to think.  Not free to live as you choose; peacefully...  Sad really...
