Technical / CR250R Keihin PWK/mikuni carb swap questions
« on: April 14, 2013, 03:32:20 AM »
Thanks Dogger, Yea that 2000 model boot is only about $26 but I am going to try and install the keihin with the stock parts and see how it goes. Are there any tricks to disconnecting the TPS? I was thinking just disconnect and wrap with black tape. Thanks again -Mike

Technical / CR250R Keihin PWK/mikuni carb swap questions
« on: April 13, 2013, 09:31:44 PM »
Hello all, finally got around to ordering a PWK airstryker from JD for my 2006 CR250R and upon examining the carb the one they sent is the 91mm carb (front to back), not the 75mm carb like the stock Mikuni. My question is will this work anyway and is the longer carb better for performance? Can I swap out the airboot from an earlier CR (like a 2002/3) that runs the 91mm carb or can I squeeze the extra 16mm of carb in there? Should I return it and find a 75mm Keihin? Any help would be appreciated, TIA.

There are two wrecks in that corner, the big crash with Reed, Grant, Stewie, (Dungy and Canard didn't come clean out of that either), and then there is another crash on the outside of the turn that gets Barcia. Bad crash, hate to see that anytime but so early in the season it is going to be a game changer.

General Two Stroke Talk / 250sx vs 250xc
« on: January 23, 2013, 09:41:15 PM »
Have you looked at the 150 XC? No E-start for that one and it is as tall as the other KTM's but it sure is light. At your height I would look at a lowering link which should drop the rear several inches at the seat and allow you to easily touch the ground. I have a stature challenged friend who has used lowering links on his bikes and is very happy with them.

Another benefit of choosing a bike with linkage is you can get a lowering link if you need to drop the bike. I think the kick/E-start, six speed tranny and linked rear suspension would sell me on the XC. The weight difference is E-start, muffler, gearbox, kickstand, and fuel tank compared to the SX, all heavier on the XC. That go button would make it all worthwhile but that's just me.

Sounds like the XC is the perfect bike for you, E-start, very track worthy (not like the SX but still a fun track bike) and a great trail/off-roader. If you really wanted to moto it some suspension work would probably be in order.

Bad handling Honda's? You all must be talking about the latest generation of foofers, my 06 CR250 goes where I point it, when I point it and other than being a stiff ride is the most predictable handling MX bike I have ever ridden.

This has been my experience in Cali as well, anything with a reasonable price is just a rat bike and any nice bike is getting full pop. Lately I've seen some of the high end prices drop after a bike sits on the market for a while, probably because of the crummy economy. Good luck

Thought I'd post this here as well, thx

I was hoping for some feedback from anyone with experience fitting a PWK airstriker to a late model CR250 (2006). I just ordered the JD kit (I have had great success running their needles) and will go with their baseline jetting specs. I ride at 2000=3000 above sea level for the most part and the motor is mostly stock with the exception of an FMF system and V-force reed. I have been running high test pump gas and Maxima Super M at 40:1. If anyone could provide feedback about installation, jetting, or any other issues it would be most appreciated. TIA.
