If "close" means a three hour drive, then yeah. I guess the Brown's camp area is only an hour or so away, but I don't think I've been there even one time that I haven't come inches from death in the hands of some other goon doing half a trillion miles per hour. Besides, a huge preponderance of "unused" land in Oregon is "public" land. Now, that sounds like it'd mean that the general public can use it, but it really means that Uncle Sam gets to decide who can use it. So in reality, it just sits there and gets prowled around by Sasquatches until some logging company is given a lease to do some "chop it like it like it's a rental" business.
I will say this, though. If there's someone on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation that's reading this, make yourself a toll booth out there in the desert and open up some of them abandoned dirt roads I've seen on Google Earth. Looks like riding heaven, and the 'res could bring in some decent money if they actually allowed people in.
